Wednesday 3rd July 2019

Greetings Everyone

Last night was a bit of a late one. I had the absolute pleasure  of attending the North Otago Primary Schools' Music Festival at the Opera House. We had a small, but excited group of singers, who sang their hearts out.
I'm sure that their supporters would have been as proud of their effort as Mrs Sime and I were. Well done everyone!
I would also like to formally thank Susan for all her hard work in putting our choir together. It was a big commitment organising songs, practices, trips to Oamaru, and finally, to the massive day yesterday. A big, big thank you Mrs Sime from us all!
Choir picture below.

Thank you to all those who attended the Student Led Conferences on Monday. It was great to see so many families come and share their children's learning.
I think that the impromptu "Dads' Bee Bop Challenge' in Aoraki may have been the highlight.

Wheels Day tomorrow is an opportunity for the students to support schools by helping provide much needed reading material.
A huge thank you to Liesel Herbst for sorting, packing and organising delivery.

This is my last week as 'Acting Principal' and I would like to thank everyone for their support. It has been a positive experience and I have learnt new things about myself.

What I have really enjoyed is chatting with parents as they come in and wandering through the Hubs catching up with the children.
What I have really that missed over the last 5 weeks is 'my kids' and teaching.
Thank you Mrs Kim Kennedy for working in Mahutonga during this time. I know that the students have enjoyed their time with you as much as you have.
I am looking forward to getting back into the classroom next term.

Have a good week everyone.
Enjoy the holidays!

Today is the last day of our Book Fair. If you are wanting to purchase any books please make sure you are here before 3:30pm. There are a number of books put aside waiting for payment

Thank you to all who have supported our Book Fair. We get a percentage of what we sell back from Scholastic, in books. We are very grateful for all your support.
On Thursday Moana and Pukepuke will be travelling down to the 4 Square to participate in the Food for Thought programme.
They will be looking at healthy foods and will be planning a healthy meal to have with the class.
Pukepuke will be going at 9.30 and Moana will be going at 11.30.
OVERDUE LIBRARY BOOKS

There are quite a few outstanding library books, and some for quite a while.  During the school holidays please have a good look for these and return them asap.

Books cannot be issued while students have overdues.
Thanks Bridget
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing Board of Trustees members who have all made valuable contributions to the governance of our school. Thank you Janina Slee, Graham Hay, Nicole Phillips and Danielle Powell.
Secondly, I would like to welcome and congratulate the new Principal (Matt Bokser) and the new Board of Trustees: Mike Pavletich, Liesel Herbst, Suzie McIlraith, Andy Hayes and Susan Sime (Staff rep). I am looking forward to working with you all.

Mr Matt Bokser starts at the beginning of Term 3 and he and his family are moving up to Kurow in the holidays. I am sure we will all make them feel welcome in their new home town.

A big thank you to Pip Jepson who has been our Acting Principal in the interim period, she has done a GREAT job and we appreciate it. I have no doubt she will be looking forward to getting back to her kids in Mahutonga just in time for some Alpine skiing!!

To everybody have safe and fun holidays and see you all back for Term 3.

Kind Regards
Emma Bell
BOT Chairperson

 Wheels Day

On Thursday 4 July 2019, we are having a Wheels Day at school.

Children are able to bring wheel toys, scooters (with helmets), remote controlled vehicles etc,  anything except bikes and motorbikes.

We are asking for a $2 donation.

All funds raised will go towards the postage to get unneeded school books to American Samoan Schools.  These resources will be valued and much appreciated by the schools which have limited resources. We thank you in advance and will continue to update you on our efforts.

The Friends of the Waitaki Valley School would like to thank everyone who supported our yearly quiz on Friday 28th June.

Special thanks to Ross and Trish of the Kurow Hotel, Hamish Benny our quizmaster and Rachael Chilton our scorekeeper.

We raised just over $1,100.

We are now looking forward to our next event, Bloke of the Year, on August 10th.
