Five LGBT Videos on EngageMedia to Celebrate 50 Years of Pride

Pride Month has come to a close, and although there are some things to celebrate, there’s a lot more to be done. Southeast Asia has seen some recent victories – like the victory of marriage equality in Taiwan and the backtracking of Brunei on a proposed gay sex death penalty – but anti-LGBTQ discrimination and violence are still prevalent in many conservative places in the region.

This year’s celebration is special as it commemorates 50 years since Pride was born in the Stonewall uprising that sparked the modern LGBT movement. In New York, residents and around 150 groups from outside the US
joined the 150,000-strong celebration. In the Philippines, participants broke their own Southeast Asia record with 70,000 marchers.
This global solidarity of changemakers reflects EngageMedia’s stance: for movements to create impact, we need networks that allow collaboration, sharing & learning from each other, seeing beyond one’s own context.
In this light, we hope you enjoy five of the best videos on EngageMedia that highlight various LGBT stories, seen from various Asia Pacific perspectives, as well as one from Greenwich Village in New York, the birthplace of Pride.
