Podcast Episode 5 - Ecodesigner Katie Beverley
Ecodesign expert Katie Beverley describes herself as a ‘critical friend’ of the circular economy. We dig into Ecodesign principles to find out more, and explore how Ecodesign could help overcome the ‘teething problems’ of circular solutions. Katie explains the benefits of user-centred and systems-thinking approaches.
We discuss the business ‘ecosystem’, remanufacturing and the circular economy’s potential for local job creation and social benefits, and Katie tell us about a range of projects she’s supported as Senior Research Officer with Ecodesign Centre, PDR, at Cardiff Metropolitan University in Wales.

World Circular Economy Forum 2019
Back from Helsinki, Peter reviews the World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF 2019) in this blog. There were plenty of links to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and lots of discussion (though no solutions) to the challenge of measuring circularity. Peter includes some circular economy examples from Europe and Africa, and tells us about the highlights of a session focussed on bioeconomy solutions for plastics.

Peter was invited to join the conversation on Episode 12 of the Old Fox, Young Fox long-form podcast. The wide-ranging discussion covered the circular economy, Peter's work supporting circular progress in Brighton and Africa, economics, politics and much more.
Last month we mentioned that Peter's chapter in 'The Circular Economy and the Global South', published by Routledge, draws on case studies from Kenya and South Africa to explore how the circular economy can contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs. Find out more
Peter’s blog post in 2018 explains more about the circular economy in Africa, and you can read his research project on Recycling Mobile Phones in Africa. To learn more about the circular economy and how it builds a better world, why not read our article: What is the Circular Economy.

What's inspired us...
In the Old Fox, Young Fox podcast, the conversation touches on Gunter Pauli's Blue Economy. Pauli is one of the early proponents of a regenerative and circular system (read more about the early thinkers in my book), and the Blue Economy has a strong emphasis on the need for social and regenerative outcomes, with it's first principle: "respond to basic needs of all with what you have, introducing innovations inspired by nature, generating multiple benefits, including jobs and social capital, offering more with less."
This short video is a good summary!
Hope you have a good week...
