The Art of Friendship
Creating Heroines

More and more I find myself telling people that my current practice is making friends. June saw a lot of that. I hosted a gathering at the chapel with some talented pals I worked with in Nepal on the British Council Creating Heroines project in February (not yet updated at this link). Aleesha Nandhra, Sofia Niazi and Jill Richens. We spent quality time walking, talking and eating with a bit of essential 'band practice".

Joining the global dance
in Lincolnshire

The hottest day of the year was just another day dancing in the street for us rural Lincolnshire dwellers!

More friendship-led activity took place with our guest from Joshua Tree Bernard Leibov. John and I originally met Bernard in the queue to Mike Nelson's work in the British Pavillon at Venice in 2011. In 2018 John visited Joshua Tree on an exchange The Collab Project and in June we hosted Bernard at the chapel. We gathered a group of local artist friends for lunch and then Bernard led us in taking part in Ana Sanchez Colberg's Seven to the Seventh project. To enjoy our full 7 mins here's the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=16&v=4oXLluDsai0
And here's a link to the one we did with just the 3 of us inside the chapel, for which I got out my dancing shoes!

LDC Residency
Lincolnshire

Making new friends and consolidating old ones was at the heart of the pilot LDC residency that took place at the chapel for the rainy weekend. We had 8 participants and five of us members of the LDC committee. Our special guest was Corinne Pearlman, the creative director of publisher Myriad Editions. It was an inspiring and enjoyable time and great to see so much variety in the works and stories. We intend to run it again next June and will post more pics and details on our website over the summer https://ldcomics.com

“Why comics? why feminism? why laughter?”
at Mansions of the Future, Lincoln

The three topics I like to talk about most! Thank you to Mansions of the Future, Lincoln for hosting my talk during an evening of torrential rain. And thank you to James Brooke for the photos.

Friends...and family! John and I enjoyed attending an event put on by The Reading Room Club as their official launch. Set up and run by a group of Slade students, including our daughter Sally Plowman. This event was held at the amazing Conway Hall, in the library, and was part of Antiuniversity now!
