Rock Your Career: How 25 Years of Speaking Has Helped My Career and More! - With David McCarter (aka, dotNetDave)
July 2019 marks my 25th year of speaking at conferences, user groups, companies that also includes teaching at a university for almost 20 years. My motivation was to help others coming up in the software engineering world and now as I reflect back, I can see how much speaking and teaching has dramatically helped my career and personal life. Speaking has even lead to being recognized by the Microsoft MVP program as an expert in my field.
In this session, I will discuss how I got started, how it led to writing books and training videos and how it lead to speaking in multiple countries. Along the way, I will share stories and discuss how you can get started speaking or improve your speaking skills.
This special anniversary session will feature guest speakers. I will have lots of swag to giveaway including software!
I will have copies of my new book Rock Your Code: Code & App Performance to sell at the meeting for $15. ALL profit from the book will be donated to the Voice of Slum in India to help kids get out of the slum. I’ll even throw in some special swag if you buy at the meeting including a dotNetDave custom guitar pick!
Part of the goal of the User Group is to promote networking among the members. So I am challenging everyone to meet new people. When you get your pizza, I encourage you to stay in the building lobby and talk to at least two people you have never met before instead of going to sit down in the auditorium

IMPORTANT UPDATE - Per Meeting Donation Option at Main Meeting
As we announced at the last meeting, the pace of memberships is no longer enough to support having pizza at the Main Meeting. For the February Main Meeting we will be introducing an optional per meeting donation of $5 to cover the cost of the pizza for anyone that does not have an annual membership. The per meeting fee will be collected in cash at the meeting via a donation jar or online via the Meetup Chip-In button.
At present, the per meeting fee is on the honor system and we will be evaluating whether this will be an effective way to support the expenses related to providing pizza at our meetings.
