Dear YB Member,

We plan to send an occasional Yellow Balloons Newsletter to those who signed up for updates.  In this space we will share the stories of those who are on the journey of seeking a true perspective. That includes you.

We are so thankful for each and every single one of you, and we hope you will be as encouraged as we are by the testimonies of how God is impacting the lives of so many.

YB Devotional member John Velleco sent us a powerful testimony and a request for prayer as he and his family walk through one of life’s valleys.
Dear Yellow Balloons Team,

Last year I skimmed through a copy of Yellow Balloons while I was waiting at the CrownQuest office, enough to get the gist of the book.

I thought about Yellow Balloons in April, when my own grandson was diagnosed with a devastating brain cancer called DIPG. My wife and I have raised Luca from the day he was born, and we legally are his parents, so he’s both a grandson and our sixth child. There’s no cure yet for the disease he has, and there’s no known cause. He’s four-years-old and a couple of weeks ago finished a brutal course of radiation, every day for six weeks, that doctors hoped would shrink the tumor enough to give him several months of a “good” quality of life.

Unfortunately, this weekend he started showing signs that the tumor was returning. More radiation is not an option, so we’re trying various alternative holistic and homeopathic options, and we’re praying. Our church, our family’s churches and people we don’t even know all over the country are praying for Luca. We believe God is bigger than any disease and could miraculously heal him.

I bought Yellow Balloons and am slowly and deliberately working through it. I was also curious about his son the musician, so I looked up David Dunn as well. It turns out that our family listens to David all the time on the radio. I listened to the song "Yellow Balloons", which brought me to tears. I listened again and again, and it brought more and more tears. Then my mind went to that place I try not to allow it to go to--that in all likelihood, except for a miracle, my wife and I will have to be planning our boy’s funeral and memorial service sometime this year. Even though we try to spend every possible minute and second we can to make the greatest memories possible for him with our family, I can’t escape the reality that we’re doing that because his time is short.

I’d like to use Yellow Balloons in his service. We don’t always understand the why’s of what God is doing, but in the end we still “beg for more of You.”

More about Luca

Blessings to you,
John Velleco

"Yellow Balloon members, please be praying for John, his wife Catherine, and their grandson Luca as they traverse this valley."
