SUMMER NEWSLETTER

Hello! welcome to DFEL's Summer Newsletter! And yes, you guessed it as I typed those words, the heavens opened.  But as the song goes, although it's raining outside, we're looking forward to a very sunny DF Summer!

Dunbar Old & Young Diners - every Wednesday youngsters from the Dunbar Grammar and older folk from across Dunbar get together at the school for a blether, entertainment & a wonderful dinner. (With support from teachers and volunteers from Dunbar Grammar School and Dunbar Rotary - thanks guys!). It's lovely to see friendships growing across the generations.

Creative Clans - Join Lucy Robertson and the Creative Clans project at the 3 Harbours Festival, 2-5 July, 11 - 4pm Cockenzie House & Gardens Dementia Friendship. We're twinned with Cianalas DFC on the Outer Hebrides, funded by DEEP

Therapeutic Gardens & DF Places - join us for an informal workshop on dementia and gardens at Cockenzie House & Gardens on 31 July, 10am -12 noon.  It's run by Professor Mary Marshall, Honorary Professor, University of Edinburgh and Annie Pollock, an architect and landscape architect. They have a wealth of experience in designing outdoor spaces for people  with dementia. Please get in touch to book your place or sign up here.

Singing - The Dementia Choir really started something (click here to see it). We've had  people in different parts of East Lothian wanting to set up choirs. We're planning a workshop, so please get in touch if you're interested.

The Autumn Gathering - have you got ideas for the Autumn Gathering? Would your group like to run a workshop or session? Get in touch!  The Community Conversations are bringing up lots of ideas, including  a session on diagnosis, sharing ideas for projects and talking about what a Dementia Friendly Community is. There are also lots of  concerns about social isolation.

We know that staying connected and active can make a big different to living with dementia whether you have dementia or are a carer, friend or family member. So keep in touch!

Here's to Living and not Existing!

Take care

Cheers,

Sue
