Capital Construction Assistance Board Vacancy

CDEs Capital Construction Assistance Board (CCAB) is seeking a member who is or has recently been a public school superintendent or administrator for a suburban school district.

This position will be appointed by the State Board of Education and will serve a maximum of three two-year terms starting on or after Wednesday, Aug. 14.

For questions or to apply for the position, submit a letter of intent and resume to Andy Stine, director of Capital Construction by Friday, July 19. Application materials will be shared with the State Board of Education to review and make the appointments.

Format changes coming soon to School and District/BOCES names in Pipeline

CDE's Information Management Systems (IMS) Division is changing the format of school and common district/BOCES names in the Pipeline Directory from all UPPER CASE to Title Case.

This will make the lists easier to use for communications and reporting. Once the change occurs, the new formatting will be seen in the pipeline, reporting and directory listings available on the CDE website. The change will occur before the 2019-20 school year.

Last chance to register for the Moving Beyond Compliance Series

The Educator Effectiveness (EE) team will host catch-up sessions for district/BOCES teams that missed the opportunity to learn more about flexibility and areas for differentiation within local evaluation practices.  Sessions will take place Tuesday, July 23, at Summit High School in Breckenridge.

For district and BOCES teams that have already attended Part 1, the Educator Effectiveness team will be hosting Part 2 in the morning and afternoon as well on July 23 at Summit High School. Part 2 sessions are meant to build on Part 1.

Submit an application for the 2020 Colorado Teacher of the Year

The application for the 2020 Colorado Teacher of the Year is now available. Each year, the Colorado Teacher of the Year Program honors an exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable and skilled teacher in any state-approved or accredited school, kindergarten through grade 12, who is planning to continue in an active teaching status, to represent the entire profession in Colorado.

Applications for this honor are due Wednesday, July 10. Access the application, requirements  and additional information on the program webpage.

2019-20 free and reduced price meal income guidelines released

The policy for determining eligibility of children who may receive federally free and reduced price school meals (or free milk) has been released.

Local school officials should use the household size and income criteria to determine eligibility for free or reduced price school meals (PDF).

Apply for the Media Literacy Advisory committee

The application for participation on CDE’s Media Literacy Advisory Committee is open through Friday, Aug. 9. A letter of interest will need to be uploaded as part of the online application. Applicants for a professional role will be asked to upload a current resume.

The department anticipates that the working group will convene in September 2019 and will continue to meet regularly through December 2019. Members will be provided travel reimbursement and, if applicable, substitute cost reimbursement.

The committee will be responsible for creating a report for the education committees of the House of Representatives and the Senate of the Colorado General Assembly with recommendations for implementing media literacy in elementary and secondary education.

Commissioner accepting applications for teacher cabinet

CDE is accepting applications from practicing teachers around the state to fill eight to 10 seats on the Commissioner's Teacher Cabinet.

Teacher Cabinet members advise on policy implementation and provide ideas on improving education for all students. Members represent diverse geographic areas, grade levels and content areas as well as diverse communities.

To be considered, educators must have at least three years of experience in the classroom and must submit the required materials by Thursday, Aug. 15. Selected educators will serve two years on the cabinet beginning fall 2019.
