GRACE

Right now (in Kansas anyway), everything is green and lively! A hail storm pummeled my garden a couple weeks ago, stripping everything to the stem, but now, most of the plants have grown robust new leaves.

Seasons come and go. In several months, the vegetables will be gone, and the trees will look dead. You won't see any signs of growth or life above ground. But did you know that roots keep growing in the winter? They're storing up food and energy for the coming season of above-ground growth.

People are like that, too. I had a long stretch of years where I didn't have much to show on the surface, and I felt very unproductive -- but things were still happening underneath the surface, preparing me for the next season. Now, a few years later, I'm seeing the fruit of that underground season.

So if you're currently in a season that looks like nothing is happening, give yourself and your situation some grace. Whether you find yourself in an underground season or an above-ground season today, remember: BOTH ARE GOOD!

TRUTH

“What's good for the body is good for the brain,

and...

what's bad for the body is bad for the brain.

Any diet and lifestyle that encourages obesity or

type 2 diabetes is going to harm the brain.”

-- Max Lugavere, author of Genius Foods

Note: Genius Foods is jam-packed with scientific information about what foods are good for the brain, and which aren't. It's good, but if you're looking for an easier read with less science-speak and more how-to, I recommend Wired to Eat by Robb Wolf.

GOOD FOOD
If you're looking for a summer meal that can feed lots of different tastes and diets -- whether that's a few people around your table, or a crowd at a party -- a taco bar is a great option. And one of my favorite ways to do that is a fish taco bar.

Depending on what ingredients you provide, these tacos can be gluten-free, dairy-free, low carb, Paleo, and/or Whole30.

Never had fish tacos? I thought they sounded horrible when I first heard of them, but they're nothing like beef tacos. The fish is very mild: the flavor is all about the other ingredients. And I've got a really easy spicy crema that's the perfect topper. Give it a try!

That recipe and other prep details here: Fish Taco Bar
