Zacharias Kunuk Receives the Order of Nunavut!

“We’ll be filming walrus hunting possibly in August. We have to make sure the people are informed. We have to find out what Inuit are afraid of and what they’re joyful about, and what their challenges are. That’s why Isuma was created.” - Zacharias Kunuk

Well-known filmmaker Zacharias Kunuk recently received the highest honor in the territory for his pioneering and innovative contributions to Canadian cinema. Zacharias’s work challenges stereotypes of the north and demonstrates Inuit culture, tradition, and language through a creative and modern lens. His collaborative approach is distinctly unique, involving his whole community in production, and working with egalitarian principles. His film Atanarjuat was regarded as the greatest Canadian film of all time by critics at the Toronto International Film Fest in 2015. We have copies of revered film at the Nunavut Film Development Corporation office if you would like to borrow a copy!

Perhaps you have seen them before and your visit will give new light to a fond favourite, or you will find something new to entertain. The Nunavut audience is the most important to these homegrown productions! Stop by and be entertained. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday 1pm-5pm.
