Hello good people!

So here we are again. I've already hit snooze four times on my reminder to write this week's newsletter intro, and I still don't have anything interesting to report. I mean, I have a very rich interior life and deep thoughts about many things, but considering how closely my parents (Hi Mom, Hi Dad!) read into everything I write here, that stuff is probably better suited to my live journal. (I still love you both dearly).

We're working away frantically here at our final big reveal for the year, so it's all hands on deck here. In anticipatory celebration, I've got our first 'real' family holiday lined up which took almost a gruelling week of trawling through every one star review on Tripadvisor.

I'm not sure why I do this, but for some reason I just trust the low ratings more. Even though the people who write them are obviously insane and have a huge axe to grind, and are remarkably adept at photographing tile grout in low light locations. That said, each one star review just tends to fester in my brain until I completely delegitimise the thing before I even experience it. This is why I only eat lunch from a small number of places and can never watch anything on Netflix longer than 24 minutes. I have more to say on this, but I'll save it for the old LJ.

Anyway, I'm resolving to leave more reviews in my own life. We need more good reviews on the internet. Not great reviews, like five stars. More like four stars. Four seems reasonable. Here's my first one - five stars for all of our artists and the amazing work they do every week. Four and a half stars for my brilliant editorial transitions. That's all for now.

The Podcast

This week! We’re going through our open tabs and will be discussing nonsensical ideas, and how to get your emails returned.

"As artists, you can think of your work as a product in that way. It has to be solving some kind of need that’s in the marketplace."

// Jeremy Wortsman

Each week on our podcast we dissect three links we’ve come across our internet travels. These are jumping off points for what’s shaping issues, processes and happenings in the creative industries today. To find our more about our IRL open tabs events, visit opentabs.rodeo

The Gallery

Lamington Drive is an exhibition space, art school and a great way to meet other artists. Feeling lonely? Come to a show!

Lamington Drive Residency

LDR operates in two parts – 4 emerging illustrators and image-makers will work in-residence at the gallery for a duration of 8 weeks, encouraging on-site production and exploration (which will be open to the eyes of the public throughout).

This is followed by a dedicated group exhibition of the finished work created in that time, opening mid August.

Come down to the gallery between 11-6pm Wednesdays through Fridays and 12-5 Saturdays to check out what our residents are getting up to!

The above artwork is by current LD resident Nina Elliott.

The Gardens

Clear the mind. Feed the process. Jacky Winter Gardens is a creative retreat nestled in a half-acre of natural bushland only 45 minutes from Melbourne. It’s a perfect getaway for solo travellers, couples and small groups.
