INSEAD Entrepreneurship Club - What's Your Story Slam

Tuesday 09 July, 7.00pm – 10.00pm at The Projector
So it’s finally here…. WYSH together with The INSEAD Alumni Entrepreneurship Club of Singapore is hosting the first Whats Your Story Slam series at the Projector on July 9 - doors open at 7pm.

What is a Story Slam?

The Story Slam is a live storytelling competition. True stories told live! Storytellers have 5 minutes each to tell a story, based on a theme chosen for the event. No notes allowed.

What is the theme for the Story Slam?

Theme for the July show is RISK.

Talk about the time where you went all in, decided not to go for it, stood in the sidelines, ran the probabilities in your head and made that call, or took a chance. Talk about the time when you went outside your comfort zone and took that leap of faith. What happened?

Who takes part in the Story Slam?

Story Slam features people like YOU, entrepreneurial spirits within and outside the INSEAD alumni community, with a great story to tell - entertaining the audience with the unpredictable, hilarious, and poignant turns that their lives have taken. We would love to hear from you! Pitch your story (or stories) on the theme by June 20.

Email us your pitch either via a voice message +65 84280925 or email to Anna Ong MBA'09J. If your story is selected, you'll get to do a coaching session a week before the show with storytelling coach, Anna Ong.

We're happy to reveal more storytellers:

De-Globalisation and Sino-US Conflict: Causes and Implications

Saturday 24 August, 8.30am – 5.00pm at INSEAD
The US-China conflict and what it means for doing business

Tensions and turbulent shifts in trade policy, economic power and geopolitics are creating new uncertainties for business organisations. The last 30 years provided a stable rules-based framework, globalisation opened up many new markets for trade and investment, and multinational corporations built globally integrated supply chains. Today, we see the United States struggling to maintain supremacy, China rising, resurgent nationalism across the globe, and the democratic model losing its sheen.

HE Jawed Ashraf, High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Singapore, noted at a recent INSEAD Forum, “that we are all being untethered from our moorings. It is no longer a case of history moving forward in linear fashion. We are entering an unpredictable world where we will all have to reckon with finding strategies that enable us to prosper in different sets of circumstances, different markets and different environments.” The challenge for corporate leaders is to be aware of impacts beyond our direct control.

This means that business leaders, investors and consultants cannot continue ‘business as usual’ and ignore the shift in paradigm in the global order, but have to develop a new ability: the ability to understand, assess and navigate the shifting political and economic eco-system and its evolving opportunities and risks.

The purpose of this one day crash course in international political analysis is to help you develop this ability.

Thinking Strategically about Impact with Prof. Jasjit Singh

Professor Lecture Series
Wednesday 28 August, 6.00 – 9.00pm at INSEAD
Event organised in collaboration with Harvard Business School (HBS) Club of Singapore.

Capitalism relies on a well-functioning market to allocate societal resources efficiently: producing goods and services society values, and in the process also creating jobs and wealth for people. However, market outcomes do not always align with societal objectives, such as on issues like environmental degradation or social inequality. Who should be addressing these challenges?

We will argue that different kinds of organizations – such as non-profit vs. for-profit - are best seen as complementary means of pursuing societal progress. We as individuals need to identify important societal needs we care about, and contribute to these in a manner consistent with our personal goals as well as the unique advantages and constraints of the context in which we pursue these.

Jasjit Singh has been an INSEAD professor since 2004. His teaching and research interests include Strategy, Innovation, Inclusive Business, Sustainable Development, Impact Investing and Impact Evaluation. He also regularly gives speeches on these topics, and advises investors, companies and impact ventures on how to think rigorously about their impact.

Jasjit has written numerous articles for leading academic journals as well as case studies that have won prestigious awards. He earned a PhD in Business Economics (Strategy) at Harvard Business School and an MA in Economics at Harvard University, having earlier obtained a BTech in Computer Science & Engineering at IIT Delhi and a double-MS at Georgia Tech.

This is an exclusive event for INSEAD NAA and HBS Club members. Seats are limited!
