Funding Opportunity: Workforce Development is Priority Area in NYC Regional Economic Development Council Funding
The NYS Consolidated Funding Application (CFA) is currently open and serving as the single point of entry for workforce development funding across the state, with the Regional Economic Development Councils (REDCs) playing a critical role in recommending projects that align with their region's economic and workforce development plans. Project plans and applications will be accepted on a continual basis. The funding made available for this initiative consolidates multiple programs administered by various state agencies and authorities. This year in particular workforce development projects are specified as a priority project area, and are now supported by Governor Cuomo’s new $175 million initiative.
Awards will fall in one of three categories, under the following agencies:
Public-Private Partnerships to Advance 21st Century Skills (SUNY / CUNY) - A mix of capital and operational funding to expand the infrastructure and capacity of SUNY and CUNY to produce skilled talent that meets the needs of regional employers.
Employer-Driven Skills (ESD, DOL, NYSERDA) - Provide flexible funding for innovative workforce development projects
Workforce Solutions (DOL, Pay for Success) - Provide flexible funding for innovative workforce development project
The Workforce Benchmarking Network’s (WBN) 2019 Survey - whose data provide field-wide performance benchmarks that are useful reference points for providers, funders and other stakeholders - is launching this summer. The data also help illuminate program characteristics and services that matter to increase participant success rates. Corporation for a Skilled Workforce, in partnership with Workforce Professionals Training Institute, invite New York-based organizations to join an informational webinar on Thursday, July 18 at 1 pm to learn more about how to participate and the benefits of joining the network. Learn more about WBN and its data here
Since 2008, the WBN has supported hundreds of workforce development organizations to use program data as a tool to continuously improve outcomes for job seekers, employers and communities. Updated with stakeholder input, changes in the 2019 survey include: new questions to reflect current practices in participant and employer services; the option to report outcomes disaggregated by race, ethnicity, and gender; new online reports that are more “real time”, more interactive, and offer more refined comparison information. Visit WBN for more information.
