A Message from CEO : Melissa Knox

It has been a buzz phrase for longer than 5 years now. St Bernard’s Hospice, along with most other established Not for Profit Organisations (NPO’s), together with their Board of Directors, have grappled with this phrase and we have even tried to embrace it. Yes we have.

When attending any CSI forums or meetings, you will hear it mentioned several times about how we, non-profits, need to be more like for-profits.

Please allow me to be brutally honest.

When hearing this mentioned, having been in the NPO Sector for more than 10 years, I find myself getting more and more frustrated.  This happens over .....

12 July 2019  :  ELICC  :  R500 pp  :  3 Course Meal  :  19h00


The St Bernard’s Hospice Annual Charity Dinner was not only created as a means of raising funds, but is also an opportunity to bring warm hearted people in our community together to socialize, enjoy a gourmet dinner and glass of wine while enjoying the evening’s entertainment.

For ENTERTAINMENT we have JO JACKSON DANCE STUDIO Singing and Dancing Extravaganza with DANIEL ANDERSON & DUANE JOAQUIM as MC’s & singers. Daniel and his dancing Partner will be  performing Spectacular Dancing Routines that will include the  cha cha & jive – and a chance to get on the floor and dance with them.

Nahoon Spar : Food Voucher

 
A BIG THANK YOU  to Nahoon Spar for the Food Voucher of R1500.

Goods purchased will be used to make delicious eats that will be sold at our Tea Gardens at both our Spring Pop up Shop on the 7 September and the Pam Golding Gardens of East London in November.
 

 

Haga Haga Soup Evening

There was great excitement when we received an email from Janet Deetlifs informing us that St Bernard's Hospice had once again been chosen as the sole beneficiary for their fund raiser, being the Haga Haga Soup Evening". 

They had the most amazing response .....

African Bank : Cheque


Branch Manager (1064), Laura Page and her team presented St Bernard's Hospice with a cheque for R5000 that will go directly towards our Home Based Palliative Care patients.   

We value the support we received from African Bank and a BIG THANK YOU to the staff in EL. 
 


Pollock's : Camera Donation

 
Marchel, responsible for Events & Marketing at St Bernard's Hospice was thrilled to received the camera donated by Mr Rob Pollocks.   

We now have our very own camera that can take high resolution photos that will be used in our Newsletter, Website and proposals.

 

Gately Rotary : Cheque R35000

 

The 2019 Gately Rotary Wine Auction was an overwhelming success and funds raised on the evening were distributed to selected non-profits at a luncheon at the ELICC.

Past President Jacqui Mauer from PWC  presented Dawn Schmidt from St Bernard's Hospice with a cheque.   


Momentum Charity Golf Day



The weather was FANTASTIC for the Momentum Charity Golf Day on the 24th May.

St Bernard's Hospice was 50% Beneficiary and received a generous amount of R14 287,50 from Momentum in lieu of funds raised.

Staff Feature : Nursing Manager

Riccy Durrheim

 
We welcome Riccy Durrheim, our new Nursing Manager who joined our Team in May this year.  

With over 35 years Nursing experience, Riccy started her career in Midwifery and after a while levitated towards  Psychiatric Nursing.    It was while working as a psychiatric Nurse that she developed a special love and passion for nursing terminally ill patients;   providing Palliative Care until they succumbed to their illness.  

Key to Success : Put your head to the plough and don't look back.
