Sermon by Kim Noble


"I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” This quote, attributed to Maya Angelou, is a call to put yourself in another's shoes, an essential first step in cultivating greater empathy.

Kim Noble lives and works in Providence and has been attending First Unitarian regularly for a few years. She appreciates the chance to lead the service today.

Join the Green Team on Sunday

Devoted to climate justice, the Green Team will meet on Sunday, July 7, after the worship service.

In addition to working toward getting First U certified as an official Green Sanctuary Congregation, the Green Team is dedicated to creating a sustainable way of life, central to our view of a just and compassionate world. They invite all who share these values to join them on this journey of connection, sustainability, and hope.
What's New
We're celebrating July 4th
In observance of Independence Day, church offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4th. There will be no activities at the church that day or evening.

Parking lot work finished
The church parking lot recently received its final top coat of paving. Our Building Manager Jaime Durango has been labeling and numbering all the spaces.

Space numbers are needed for those who rent the parking spots during the work week. Many thanks to all those who initiated and guided this project to completion.
Church office to close two weeks in July

Our office staff needs a break! While they take some much-deserved time off, the church office will be closed the two weeks of July 22 and 29. The office will re-open and the staff will return on Monday, August 5.

During this time, Sunday services and evening meetings will go on as scheduled.
First U participates in Providence PrideFest
At Providence’s PrideFest 2019, First U’s Side with Love set up a booth where they did face-painting and handed out materials about our faith.

Along with five other area UU church groups, First U marched in the Illuminated Night Fest Parade.
Summer contact for pastoral care needs

If you have a pastoral care need while Rev. Liz is away, please contact Church Administrator Nancy Forsstrom at admin@firstunitarianprov.org or phone 401-421-7970. We have multiple people on call to help, including Kevin Carson and members of our Lay Ministry team.

Rev. Liz is taking her study time and vacation through mid-August. She will not monitor her church email while she is away. Feel free to contact Nancy if you would like to get on Rev. Liz's calendar for the fall or if you have any questions. 

 
Once a Unitarian cathedral

Yes, this magnificent structure in Albagulia, Transylvania, was once a Unitarian cathedral. Unitarian Prince Jānos Zsigmond is buried here.

The First U group that just returned from a visit with our partner church in Transylvania toured this church and many other historical and cultural sites during their trip.

Tai Chi 
Tuesdays at 7:00pm (Auditorium) 
Make the connection between mind, body, and spirit in a manner that embodies the concepts of Taoist philosophy with the practice of an old internal martial art. First-timers can meet Al Tringali in the Auditorium for some orientation at 6:45.


Knitting for a Better World 
Tuesdays at 7:00pm (Resource Room)

Innate Wisdom and Compassion Meditation
