May you be prepared to endure everything with patience,
while joyfully giving thanks to the Father.
Colossians 1:11-12

From "The Inner History of a Day"
by John O'Donohue

The mind of the day draws no attention;
It dwells within the silence with elegance
To create a space for all our words,
Drawing us to listen inward and outward.

We seldom notice how each day is a holy place
Where the eucharist of the ordinary happens,
Transforming our broken fragments
Into an eternal continuity that keeps us.

Somewhere in us a dignity presides
That is more gracious than the smallness
That fuels us with fear and force,
A dignity that trusts the form a day takes.

So at the end of this day, we give thanks
For being betrothed to the unknown
And for the secret work
Through which the mind of the day
And wisdom of the soul become one.

Summer BBQ Season is Here!
Our next BBQ is Wednesday, July 31, at 5:30 p.m. The church will supply burgers, garden burgers, hot dogs, buns and the fixings, and beverages. What do you bring if you come? A salad, side dish or dessert to share with the community! All are welcome - take a night off from cooking to catch up with new friends and old. See our "Save the Date" section below for additional BBQ dates.

Joint Statement from CA Bishops

The Episcopal Bishops in the state of California have issued a joint statement on the inhumane treatment of migrant children at our southern borders. The statement includes a number of resources to help immigrants seek refuge and asylum. You can read the full document here

In response, our Social Justice group recommends CCLA members follow their urging by attending a vigil against the inhumane treatment of asylum seekers at our border.  The LIGHTS FOR LIBERTY CANDLELIGHT VIGIL TO END CONCENTRATION CAMPS (more information below) is sponsored by Together We Will this Friday, July 12 from 7:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at 790 W El Camino Real, Mountain View 94040. Questions? Call or text Marcene at 650-823-2626 or email her at mvd1131@aol.com.

Join together with hundreds of others to line El Camino Real in Mountain View to illustrate our opposition to the concentration camp system being used to separate families and destroy lives of immigrants legally seeking asylum at the US border. We begin our vigil at 7:30 by lining the intersection and surrounding sidewalks. At 8:45 we will begin our candlelight vigil, and we close at 9:00 with a mass reading of Emma Lazarus' stanza written beneath the Statue of Liberty. Please bring your own candle - electric preferred but enclosed wax candles are fine (please no uncovered candles!)

Emergency Preparedness
The vestry has been talking in recent months about our Emergency Preparedness as a parish and particularly on Sunday mornings. If you are interested in being a part of a small committee working on this, please let Rev. Claire know as we would welcome your voice and perspective! Additionally, and in light of the recent earthquakes in Southern California, this is a reminder to assemble your home and car emergency kits if you have not already done so. The city of Los Altos has a number of helpful resources around emergency preparedness here, including a list of suggested items for your kit here

Former Parishioner Jane Shea turns 100!
Long time Christ Church parishioner Jane Shea, who moved to Colorado last year, celebrated her 100th birthday recently! For those who would like to send her a congratulations or happy birthday card, her address is:  Jane Shea, 10100 Common St., #5010, Lone Tree, CO, 80124. We're sure she would love to hear from her former church family.

Come Sing with Us! - Summer Choir Starts this Sunday!
Raise your voice with the Christ Church Summer Choir - no experience required! Drop by the sanctuary on Sunday morning at 9:15 a.m., July 14-August 18, to see what the fun is all about. In addition to singing hymns and service music, we'll learn one choral anthem each Sunday and learn about vocal technique from music minister Eric Tuan. No choral experience or long-term commitment is required, just a willingness to learn - we would love to welcome you on any or all of these summer Sundays!

Homestays Needed for Red Priest!
To launch the 2019-2020 season of the Living Harmony concert series, the British Baroque quartet Red Priest will be performing at Christ Church on Sunday, September 29 at 7:30 p.m., and engaging in an outreach event with Ventana School on Monday, September 30. We are looking to homestay their four instrumentalists for the nights of September 28, 29, and 30. Would you be willing to host one of the instrumentalists for these three nights? Your hospitality makes it possible for Christ Church to host these world-renowned artists and share their music with our community. Please email Director of Music, Eric Tuan (eric@ccla.us), if you are able to host. Many thanks for considering!

Altar Guild Looking for New Members
Our Altar Guild is looking for new members! The commitment is once a month to set up the altar for Sunday services with another team member. No previous experience required, we will set up training sessions. Please let us know if you are called to this ministry. Your once-a-month duties will introduce you to fabulous new friends, and give you a deep sense of satisfaction and love for your church! Please contact Carol Codding, Sheila DeLisle (650-961-9536), or Rev. Claire (claire@ccla.us) if you are interested.

Coffee Hour Committee: Looking for Signups for Summer Coffee Hour
We serve approximately 35 parishioners each week during the summer coffee hour after the 10:15 service and we are looking for additional people to help through the summer. Coffer hour offerings can be as simple as a dozen bagels/cream cheese, pastries, cheese/sausage/cracker platter, fruit, OR, if you feel emboldened, a casserole or platter of 20 sandwiches (then cut in half), OR, you tell us what you would like to bring and we can do the rest: water, juice, cookies, etc.  Ask to see our prior menus for ideas and quantities. The Committee will set up the coffee and tea service, assist with setup/breakdown and help with the dishes. The sign-up sheet is posted in the Parish Hall outside of the kitchen. All contributions are most welcome. See you there!

Have an Announcement for the Thursday Newsletter or Sunday Herald?
Please submit items to Deanne (office@ccla.us) by Tuesday, 12 noon, for that week's newsletter and Herald. Depending on timing of an event and content already submitted, we may decide to wait a week and would notify you if that were the case. We usually start publicizing events three weeks prior to the event.
