RRWC Summer Splash!
RRWC Summer Splash!
August 7th, 2019, 5:30pm
Redwing Picnic Shelter
Cleveland Metroparks Hinckley Reservation

“Kayaking: How to Paddle Safely”
Presented by Cleveland Metroparks Recreation Specialist Ashley Rossetti
Program begins promptly at 5:30pm at Redwing Shelter on West Drive in the Cleveland Metroparks Hinckley Reservation.

Hinckley Reservation is dominated by its unique geologic, hydrologic, and cultural features. The reservation features 90 acre Hinckley Lake, enjoyed by anglers, paddle sport enthusiasts, and visitors to the Spillway Beach area. Hinckley is critically important in conserving the lands abutting the East Branch of the Rocky River.

A light supper will be provided after the program. Come visit this beautiful park, visit with old friends, and welcome new friends. Hope to see you on August 7th. Redwing Shelter is an enclosed facility. We will meet rain or shine. Summer Spalsh is free, family-friendly and open to the public.

19th Annual Rocky River Cleanup a Success

Thank you to the 145 volunteers who helped clean trash from the river at our 19th Annual Rocky River Cleanup!  Special thanks to our Cleanup Co-host Cleveland Metroparks, and Cleanup Sponsors and Volunteer Groups from Cuyahoga SWCD, Ohio Central Basin Steelheaders, Earnest Machine, Slyman's, Fresh Fork Market, Cleveland Fishing Co., U-Haul, American Rivers and Cub Scout Pack 780. The Rocky River and Lake Erie are safer and healthier for aquatic life thanks to you!

We're already looking ahead planning something special for our 20th Annual Rocky River Cleanup - so mark your calendars for June 6, 2020!
Champion Creek Cleanup - July 20 in Medina

And speaking of cleanups, our next one will be held on Saturday, July 20 from 8:00am-Noon in Medina.  We're partnering with the City of Medina, Main Street Medina, SustainEd, Medina County Soil & Water Conservation District, and the Western Reserve Land Conservancy to clear trash out of Champion Creek from South Huntington Street to South Broadway Street.

We will gather in the parking lot of the former Hawkins Market (future home of ReStore/Habitat for Humanity), the staging area where snacks will be provided and ground rules, forms, location leaders and assignments, collection materials and supplies will be distributed.

Visit https://www.myrockyriver.org/champion-creek-cleanup for more info and to register.
“When I bought this house 20 years ago, you could hop across the creek out back. Now it’s a so deep and wide that I can’t even wade across it.”
If I had a dollar for every time I’d heard that on a landowner assistance site visit…

But why does this happen, and why is it happening now, all throughout Cuyahoga County and in many of our neighboring communities in northeast Ohio?

Rocky River Watershed Champions Program
Thanks to everyone who has already taken the pledge to be a Rocky River Watershed Champion!

How can you become a Rocky River Watershed Champion?

We are asking you to Take Action: In Your Yard, By Your Backyard Streams, and In Your Community to benefit the Rocky River and its tributaries. Pledge to take watershed friendly actions in your yard and actions in your community to become a Rocky River Watershed Champion and earn your very own Rocky River Watershed Champion sign for your yard! The signs measure 8" x 8" and come with a metal stake for placement in your yard. The pledge form can be filled out online here, or you can request a paper form by emailing jbartley@cuyahogaswcd.org.  Participants who send a picture of their Champions sign installed in their yard will be entered to win their choice of a rain barrel or a native seed packet.
