Reflection

Dear Ones,

On this day before our nation celebrates our Independence and Freedom as the United States of America I find myself, as I do every year, wrestling with our 21st Century understanding of freedom alongside our biblical understanding of freedom.  Before you dive into the pool, eat that cheeseburger hot off the grill, watch the fireworks, ride in the parade or draw in the dark with a box of sparklers... I pray that you might join me in this annual reflection.
  • What does freedom as a beloved child of God look like?
  • How do we live out independence as people bound to one another and our God?
  • What does a land and people modeled on God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit look like?
  • Are we close?
In searching for some of my favorite bits of scripture that address freedom through our God, I found this article (https://www.firstthings.com/web-exclusives/2014/04/god-and-freedom) that mentions a number of them and offers food for thought.  It is an article written by a Roman Catholic for a Catholic audience... but the substance is most certainly universal.  I pray that reflecting on these questions and pieces of our sacred texts help only to enliven your celebrations tomorrow and challenge us all to live more fully into our freedoms found in God alone.

Stay safe and Happy Fourth!

Coming Soon: Safety Improvement to Altar and Organ Consul

Our contractor has ordered materials to extend the flooring at the altar to close any gaps between the altar and the bench or the organ consul (white shaded area on the above picture). The work is expected to be competed in the next two to three weeks, pending arrival of materiel and scheduling.
