When Nate and I share...

our story of how God called us here we always say, “We could tell the Spiritual winds were doing something different.  We didn’t know what it was yet, but something was just different.”  I have pondered that same feeling recently regarding our city.

I have the privilege of writing the Praise and Prayer Report for mittendrin each month for our American Church Partners.  There have been times when Steffen, mittendrin’s pastor, and I have labored over the letter wondering what we could celebrate as we weren’t seeing God do anything in our city.  The praise section during those times would be pathetic and empty.

Recently, I have noticed our letters are FULL of praise each month.  For the last 6 months, I could have write more in this section, but I didn’t out of fear of overloading our audience.  I perceive this same difference in our greater community and with our colleagues, too.The Spiritual winds are doing something different.  I don’t know what it is yet, but something is just different.  Somethings are small and seem insignificant, and if you’re not careful you will not perceive it; and some things are large and clear and need to be celebrated.

A couple of recent praise notes from mittendrin:

“We have had 13 people sign up for our “Entdeckerkurs”.  This class is designed for those who are not yet believers or who are struggling with questions over their faith.  13 people have been coming each week to hear about Jesus!”

“As in the last few years, God has provided new workers for us again. JD (Jan-Dirk) and Carina Janßen will move to Potsdam at the end of June to work with mittendrin.  JD has a job as a medical technician in Potsdam and the surrounding area and Carina will study theology in Berlin and will do her internship with us.  Starting August 1st she will be on staff and JD will plug into the Teen Ministry.  It is so cool how it fits in with the vision of being a training place for future church planters. God is so good!”

“The “Kinder-Spiele-Woche” was a success with 25 kids in attendance.  There was great participation and interest in all the Biblical lessons.  We are praying that many of these families will come to a worship service and give their lives to Jesus.”

A couple of recent texts I have gotten from girls I mentor about East German teens:

“Please pray for Lena.  She comes from a home that does not believe in God.  This week at English camp I shared about Christ and she gave Him her life.  Yesterday, she went home. Please pray that God will meet her in everyday life and give her faith and that the parents will also see Jesus and not criticize Him!”

“Please pray for my teen girls I lead at Die Arche. They have been so engaged with the bible stories I shared at Teen’s Camp. I just started a new bible study with them and they are showing up!  Please pray for their salvation, that they keep asking questions, and that they keep showing up.”

“Thank you for praying for Revival Week.  95 people came to know the Lord!”

A couple of recent praises I have gotten from mittendrin's church plants:

“Our basic faith /discover Jesus course has just finished.  My Muslim roommate now wants to read the Bible.  He brought along a Syrian friend, who is coming with us on our retreat. Please pray for them to give their lives to Jesus.”
– Magdeburg Church plant

“We started 6 weeks ago with two small groups in our church.  Our goal is to multiply them by the end of the year.  Last week both groups had 2 or 3 new participants who are interested in faith, church, etc. This has been so encouraging for us as a team that non-Christians have been invited to a Christian small group.  Please pray with us for them to continue to come and give their lives to Jesus.”
– Cottbus Church plant

“Our move went so well.  God provided for all our financial needs.  He covered the expense of the move and has given us 100% monthly support.”
– Rostock Church plant

God said in Isaiah 43:19

“See, I am doing a new thing!  Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

As my colleague said, “While this may be commonplace in other contexts, this doesn’t happen in Berlin. In a nation where the Church has been tainted and twisted by political associations, subjugated and made a mockery, and until just 30 years ago was outlawed and unmentionable – people don’t just come to Christ here.He is doing a new thing. After generations of German Christians pleading for their nation and plowing unmovable soil – He is making a way in the wilderness, streams in a wasteland.”

Please pray with us ...

for each of these teens from English camps.  Please pray with us for each of those 95 souls saved.  Please pray with us for our church plants to keep connecting with their cities.  Please pray with us to not miss what God is doing, but to perceive where the Spiritual winds are blowing so we can join Him and His work!
