W.O.M.A.N., Inc. News - JULY 2019

A pivotal part of supporting survivors of domestic violence is assisting them to end the cycle of violence in their lives, once and for all. While much of our focus is on helping survivors transition to safety, we also work to spread the word about healthy relationships and healing. Over time, we have come to realize that a lot of folks aren’t sure how to define healthy relationships, and this can be especially challenging for survivors of domestic violence.

This is where YOU come in.

Please consider joining our Healing Together fundraising team! This can be a fun way to raise awareness, contribute to a good cause and build community all at the same time. You can get creative with it! As this is also a social media campaign, we'll provide you with a toolkit with all the stuff you'll need.

W.O.M.A.N., Inc. to serve as the intake line for the Cooperative Restraining Order Clinic (CROC).

CROC assists survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking in obtaining Restraining Orders. Their expert attorneys prepare the restraining order request, file it at the court, help with serving the restraining order on the other party, and prepare the survivor for the hearing.  Additionally, CROC will attend the court hearing with survivors and offer support both along the way and after the hearing.

Though we have partnered with the good folks over at CROC for decades, we are happy to be solidifying this aspect of our collaboration, starting July 1st, 2019.

Folks looking to learn more or to schedule an appointment with CROC can get in touch with us either by leaving a voicemail or sending us an email. A trained counselor will call you back during business hours (Monday-Friday, 9-5p) to complete an intake and offer counseling and general information on restraining orders.

How long have you been volunteering with WINC & what opportunities have you been involved with at the organization?
I started on the support line April 2017 and I also do peer counseling.

What propelled you volunteer & what motivates you to continue?

During my soul searching time, it felt like the right time to step up and serve the community. When I came across W.O.M.A.N., Inc.’s site and read about their work, I felt intuitively that this would be a great fit. I think everyone has a unique entry point to being of more service, and this one felt like mine. W.O.M.A.N., Inc. is led by motivated, empathetic, savvy women and I responded to their approach to domestic violence (DV) immediately. It’s a volunteer job–and I’m the one who is so grateful to get to work and connect with people. People who are just like me, who are complex humans with multi-faceted lives that aren’t defined by the DV. Also, I’m a better and more empathetic listener all around now.
