Breathe Better September campaign open for signups now

Breathe Better September is the annual campaign run by Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ to increase awareness for over 700,000 Kiwis who live with asthma or other respiratory illnesses, and gather some vital funds to support them.

The Everyday Hero Better Breathing Challenge encourages people to get out, get active, and improve their respiratory health. This could be as simple as walking around the block once a day, practicing some daily yoga, or running a marathon; whatever pushes you to raise awareness and improve your own health.

Schools, companies, families, or individuals can set up their own Better Breathing Challenge fundraising page on ‘Everyday Hero’. Digital Better Breathing Challenge packs are also available to help promote your campaigns, including posters, images, factsheets, and more.

Breathe Better September will officially launch on Monday, 2 September at Midland Park, Wellington.

For more information, and details on how to set up your own fundraising page, visit www.breathebetterseptember.co.nz.

Regulation will clear the air around vaping

Incoming regulations from the Ministry of Health on the promotion and sale of e-cigarettes and vaping products will be good news for everyone, says Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ Chief Executive Letitia O’Dwyer.

"Regulation is not the enemy of any reputable industry," says Letitia, "so creating legal restrictions on who these products can be sold to, and how, will not harm any business that is already operating in good faith."

Bridging the Gap with Healthy Homes

Poor living conditions can lead to serious health conditions, so warm, dry homes are vital to health. Dampness, crowding, and improper building materials can cause or exasperate many respiratory conditions, including asthma, bronchitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), especially in humid regions such as Wellington or Rotorua.

The Kāinga Ora-Homes and Communities Bill will help to join communities with Government for better health outcomes. Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ have submitted on this Bill. A healthy home is our dream for all Kiwis; let’s make this a reality together.

Keeping IRD Healthy

Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ represented respiratory health at the Inland Revenue Health Expo in Wellington at the beginning of July. There was a lot of interest in learning more about asthma plans, and how Sensitive Choice products could improve people's quality of life. Well done team!
