Dear Port Fairy Folk Festival Friend,

The Festival office has been busier than ever planning for your 2020 Port Fairy Folk Festival, from the artistic program to refining the site, and volunteers working away on everything from installations to researching the all important toilet facilities - every facet of the festival is up front and centre, and we are very focussed making the festival brilliant and building on what we did in 2019 to reduce our waste impacts.

Thanks to Wannon Water, we were able to significantly reduce the use of single use plastic water bottles, by bringing in great tasting tap water from nearby Hamilton, and encouraging patrons to fill up their water bottles at one of the many water refill stations.

We also introduced an additional waste stream – organic recycling. We are happy to report that more than 3.7 tonnes of food waste was collected this year, and taken to Camperdown Compost.

Our Recycling Fairies were a fantastic resource, helping people dispose of their waste, and helping to keep contamination rates low.

All up, we were able to halve the amount of waste sent to landfill this year! This is an awesome effort and we thank everyone who contributed to this result.

We have lots of improvements planned for the 2020 Festival, and look forward to reducing our impacts further, and will keep you posted on all initiatives.
