Volunteering opportunities and activities Summer 2019

Dear <<First Name>>
Top Ten Trees Walk 13 August 14.15
You may have already seen some of our  “Top Ten Trees” posters identifying a selection of unusual and interesting trees in the Square Mile. Top Ten Trees is curated by Mollie, one of  volunteers; each poster offers a few facts about these remarkable trees, to inform, entertain and occasionally astonish visitors. On 13 August Jake Tibbetts, the City Gardens Manager and tree expert will be leading a short walk to visit most of the 2019 Top Ten Trees.  If you would like to join the walk please reply now to Mollie.  The walk is free and will not be strenuous.  Places are limited and are going fast so please let us know asap if you would like to join us.

Bunhill Fields  - Every Tuesday morning 10.00 - 12.30
working sessions on the dry shade bed and woodland wildlife area
Our dry shade bed and woodland area are continuing to look stunning, thanks to our regular team of volunteers. If you would like to join these friendly sessions - sowing seeds, planting wild flowers and updating the plant survey just turn up. We meet at the gate into the Woodland reserve in the north west corner of Bunhill Fields. We will provide gloves and tools, hot drinks and biscuits!

Plant recycling project
We are very excited about our plant recycling project. The idea is to rescue plants across the City and rehome them. Every year the City changes the bedding in spring and autumn to keep floral displays looking fresh. Most of these plants are then composted as green waste but the perennials and architectural plants still have years of life in them. We want to make City gardens more sustainable and at the same time benefit residents and community groups. So this autumn we are looking for volunteers to help rescue and pot up reusable plants so they can be planted elsewhere. We are also interested to hear from any members who belong to residents' groups, churches, schools or other community groups who would be interested in receiving plants. Please contact us if you would like to help recycle and rehome. The first volunteer session for plant rescue will be in September.
Time Credits
FoCG belongs to the City's Time Credit network http://www.wearetempo.org/programme/city-london-time-credits. So for every hour you volunteer you can receive a time credit voucher to spend on a huge number of different activities across London. For example, you can visit the Tower of London, get tickets for the Barbican cinema, go bowling, canoeing or climbing  - all for free using time credits.
FoCG are changing the way we deliver time credits. If you would like to earn time credits or continue to do so please let the volunteer leader of your activity know and they will record your hours. You will also need to register with Tempo https://reporting.timecredits.com/members/register/WH1ShobsjWN9ErJf3lyYLvbVBXxshLAo

I'll look forward to seeing you soon.
Best wishes
Sarah
