AMBITIOUS STRAND ALDWYCH PLANS TAKE HUGE STEP FORWARD

Ambitious plans to transform the Strand Aldwych into a world-class cultural and learning quarter have taken a significant step forward after receiving strong public support in a recent consultation that took place in March.

The responses of the consultation showed the following results:

·       Over seven in ten consultation respondents (73%) are in support of the objectives (with 55% expressing strong support).

·       The most common reasons cited for supporting the plans related to the proposals to address air quality, support for doing more for cyclists and improvements for pedestrians

·       The most common concerns related to traffic, especially worries that plans would increase congestion elsewhere, cyclist safety and air quality.

Following these positive consultation results, detailed design work will take place over the summer ahead of a further public engagement scheduled for early next year.

STRAND ALDWYCH – A STUDENT VISION FOR 2021

Two King’s College students recently met with representatives from Westminster City Council to discuss their winning ideas for the Strand Aldwych Project, a £28m improvement plan from the council designed to improve the public realm in the area. Their ideas won the Strand Aldwych competition, which gave King's College students a unique opportunity to come up with ideas to influence a major new public space in the heart of the university's Strand campus. Westminster City Council is working with local organisations including King's on the improvement project at Strand Aldwych. Click here to view the full article.
