Our Schedule Just Keeps Heating Up
This month has been one of the hottest on record, and that includes our schedule here at Standard Solar. Between the ribbon-cutting on a community solar project in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and our busy travel schedules to various regional shows, we’re as hot as we’ve ever been—and show no signs of slowing down.
Earlier this month, we hosted a webinar about community solar, the fastest-growing segment of the solar industry and one in which we are financing a lot of projects, in conjunction with our friends at pv magazine. The webinar was a great success, and we thoroughly enjoyed participating in it. Give it a listen here.
In addition, we're also busy on the speaking and trade show circuit. Our CDO Tony Clifford attended and spoke at the Community Solar Power Summit two weeks ago and continued our established leadership on the topic. He discussed the different paths Pennsylvania and Maryland have taken toward the segment and provided other insights on the subject of community solar in a well-received, standing-room only talk.
And next month, we’re sponsoring the Florida League of Cities Annual Conference, August 15-17 in Orlando, where we'll be showing off our solar-roofing combination product. Our representatives will be there, so click here to set up an appointment. They look forward to discussing this exciting addition to our product portfolio.
In this edition of the newsletter, we discuss:
- How the tech giants are fueling a solar revolution
- How we as the solar industry have an obligation to fulfill the promise of community solar gardens;
- What the 2019 first quarter numbers for the United States—the most installed in solar in any first quarter ever—mean for the rest of the year; and
- A profile of our Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, community solar project—the largest of any Minnesota city.
Enjoy!

How The Tech Giants Are Fueling A Solar Revolution

From the way we shop to the way we socialize, the internet affects nearly everything we do these days. This dramatic change in our way of life has been fueled by a handful of large tech companies, companies that are increasingly going all in on solar.
Whether driven by the economics in solar’s favor or pressure from climate change-minded investors and customers, tech companies are

one-upping each other in their investments in solar and other types of renewable energy.
Last week, the Solar Energy Industries Association released its annual Solar Means Business report, finding that Apple, Amazon, Switch (which operates data centers) and Google were among the top 10 purchasers of solar power last year.

Could This Be The Sunniest Year For Solar? It’s Off To A Good Start
I’ve spent the last 10 years in the solar industry and, as many of you know, it’s been an industry that has had its ups and downs. There’s a reason the term “solar coaster” is actually a meaningful description of the peaks and valleys of an industry that has encountered its share of growing pains.

Brooklyn Park Installs Largest Solar Project Of Any Minnesota City
Brooklyn Park, (MN) – 7/8/2019 – Mayor Jeffrey Lunde announced today the completion of the solar panel installation at city facilities. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Congressman Dean Phillips, Speaker of the House Melissa Hortman, all supporters of clean energy, joined the news conference to talk about the importance of this project.
“Back in 2015, we worked closely with the community to decide where we want the City of Brooklyn Park to go. It was clear they want the city to be a leader in environmental sustainability,” said Mayor Lunde. “Four years later, we are proud to say we were able to complete this project without any cost burden on taxpayers.”
