CWE Sounds of Summer Music Series - We’re celebrating the return of warmer weather by bringing live music to the streets of the #CWEscene! Every Friday night from 6-9 p.m., you can sip, shop and stroll throughout the neighborhood, all while listening to the sounds of local, live musicians. Musicians will be stationed at the corners of Maryland & Euclid and McPherson & Euclid. These performances are FREE and open to the public. In addition to live music, on the First Friday of the month from May-September, several CWE retailers will be extending their hours to give you more opportunities to shop local!

Friday July 26th or Saturday July 27th - Bowood FarmsShibori Dyeing - 11 AM – 1 PM - Taught by Anne Berman - Shibori is a Japanese dyeing technique that involves folding, twisting, binding or bunching cloth and dyeing it with indigo.  Each student will receive two yards of fabric to dye- that can be made into napkins, a table runner, tea towels or a pillow cover … the possibilities are endless! You will be able to allow your creativity to flow to produce a one of a kind product. This workshop involves the use of indigo dye and is held outside, please dress accordingly in old clothing and shoes that may be stained. Workshop is limited to 10 participants. $45 

Saturday, July 27   - Bowood FarmsIris Barn Floral Arranging - 11 AM – 1 PM. Taught by Larysa Bernhardt of Iris Barn. Immerse yourself in the dramatic, floral world of Larysa Bernhardt of Iris Barn. Larysa grows and forages flowers on her small-scale farm to create romantic arrangements with layers of colors and textures. Through this hands-on class you will learn how to create your own beautiful centerpiece with tips from Larysa. The stunning arrangement you create, along with the vessel and flower frog, are yours to take home. Everyone from a flower-loving novice to an experienced designer will walk away inspired with new skills. Workshop is limited to 12 participants. $75 

Saturday, July 27 Bowood Farms - Painting with India Ink - 2 PM – 4 PM - Taught by Andrea Tharian. Andrea Henry Tharian will lead this workshop on how to paint flowers from the garden using India ink. You will learn how to paint values through a process of layering ink washes. The class will focus on looking at form and shape - perfect for those new to drawing and painting, although all levels of experience are welcome. All materials and supplies are provided, and you’ll go home your India ink and paintbrush to continue your practice. All skill levels are welcome. Workshop is limited to 12 participants. $60.

Wednesday, July 31 - Bowood Farms - The Summer Herbalist - 4 PM – 5 PM. Taught by Drew Dinges. Summer in the herb garden provides the gardener with an abundance of possibilities for homemade herbal infusions. In this class, Drew will explore old-fashioned techniques using herbal harvests with a modern twist.  He will share his favorite herbal infusions and the many ways to use them, including a list of herbal recipes. $10.

Learn all the basic lettering techniques, get comfortable using a pointed pen and ink, and practice joining letters and forming words and phrases. Saturday, August 10 - Bowood Farms - An Introduction to Sashiko Embroidery -10a-1p -  Sashiko embroidery originated in Japanese textile arts, in which decorative straight stitch patterns were used to mend and reinforce homespun fabrics. Despite its traditional roots, the abstract motifs typical of this meditative hand-stitching technique lend themselves perfectly to modern design. In this workshop, Casey will introduce sashiko materials and the basic stitch and you will embellish a fabric square. All materials and supplies are provided, and you’ll go home with your project, sashiko needle and thread. Since this is a longer workshop, Café Osage will provide baked goods for a snack. We will guide you through the soil layering process, help pick out beautiful plant combinations and suggest ways to personalize your terrarium. Price includes all soil layers plus three plants but does not include the glass container. Please bring your own glass container and any personal items such as stones or shells that you would like to include in your terrarium. Class Dates: September 9 – November 18 - Registration is now open for the 2019 Neighborhood Leadership Academy! The Neighborhood Leadership Academy, created in 2002, connects resources at the University -- Creating Whole Communities and University of Missouri Extension -- with residents and neighborhoods throughout the metropolitan area who are interested in improving their communities. The Neighborhood Leadership Academy (NLA) provides hands-on leadership training that emphasizes community building principles and strategies, project planning, organizational leadership and management practices, and personal leadership skills. Participants are actively involved in their neighborhoods and represent communities from throughout the St. Louis region. Academy participants may be neighborhood association members, community leaders, resident volunteers, community-based organization staff, business owners, local government staff, and municipal elected officials. Participants who successfully complete the program receive a Certificate in Neighborhood Leadership from the Chancellor of the University of Missouri–St. Louis. Monday, July 29 Cathedral Concerts announces their 2019 - 2020 season - Saint Louis Cathedral Concerts, an independent nonprofit that brings sacred and classical music to St. Louis from world-class musicians, releases its concert lineup for the 27th season. The 2019-2020 season kicks off Monday, July 29th at 8:00pm, and continues through Friday, April 21st, 2020. The series of live concerts will showcase notable musicians in one of the world’s most striking cathedrals, the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis located at 4431 Lindell Blvd.

Euclid South Community Improvement District does the same from Lindell south. The CWE Neighborhood Security Initiative was created in 2007 to serve the community with a comprehensive plan for security in the Central West End.
