Walk it out for National Wellness Month

August is National Wellness Month! According to Harvard Medical School, going for a daily walk boosts immune function, eases joint pain, reduces the risk of cancer and more! This month we have three Buffalo Bayou group walks led by Laura Conely of Urban Paths that you can join to jump-start or even continue your wellness journey.

Wednesday Wellness Walk

The Water Works in Buffalo Bayou Park
Anyone and everyone is invited to walk through the paths of Buffalo Bayou Park while discussing topics including mental and physical health as well as the benefits of being exposed to nature.

East Sector Wellness Walk
Saturday, August 10
9-10:30am
Guadalupe Plaza Park
Discover the historic East End neighborhood on this unique Wellness Walk. This scenic urban trail follows along Buffalo Bayou flowing toward Tony Marron Park and is a combination of pavement, dirt, and gravel.

Bayou Nature Walk with Brazos Bookstore

6:30-8pm
The Water Works in Buffalo Bayou Park
Join Brazos Bookstore as they close out their "Summer of Walt Whitman" with an evening of poetry and exploration along the bayou! You're invited into the urban wild to share poetry and a guided stroll. The evening will round out with a reflection and journaling session. $5 registration includes a notebook.

Chat with a bat expert every Friday!

Did you know that Houston Area Bat Team volunteers are available at the Waugh Bridge every Friday, March through October to answer your batty questions? The volunteers who participate are from the Houston Parks & Recreation Department, Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, several Texas Master Naturalist chapters, the Houston Zoo, Buffalo Bayou Partnership, and the Bayou Preservation Association. Bat Chats start 20 minutes before sunset.

Buffalo Bayou Partnership and Writers in the Schools are hosting celestial and lunar-inspired poetry performances under the ever-changing Lunar Cycle Lighting along Buffalo Bayou. There will be a poetry writing workshop (limited registration), followed by free curated open mic performances open to the public featuring spoken word poetry by Houston area poets.

Save the Date for KBR Kids Day 2019!

KBR Kids Day is one of Buffalo Bayou Partnership’s signature events, with thousands of children and their families in attendance each year. Join us on October 12 for free family fun at Guadalupe Plaza Park. Activity stations will include numerous hands-on activities from over 20 partners, local entertainment and performers, Dia de los Muertos face painters, balloon artists, a rock climbing wall, and so much more! Halloween costumes are encouraged!

- Rebecca is the Buffalo Bayou Partnership Database and Office Coordinator.
- She has worked for BBP for over 10 years.
- Her favorite spot along Buffalo Bayou is Sunset Coffee Building.
- Rebecca has one daughter and one grandson.
- Outside of work, she spends time with her grandson, family and friends, and enjoys good food and good company.
