Every Child Ready to Read!

Every Child Ready to Read, a nation-wide, research-based program, is composed of five simple practices that can help your child get ready for reading.  Each month we'll share one fun new tip for each practice.

READ

I was tickled pink to discover this new-to-me website: Start with a Book!  They collect topics that kids LOVE - dinosaurs, bugs, superheros and detectives - and have book and activity suggestions for each one.  Lean into your kid's dinosaur obsession by checking out their list of reading suggestions, doing easy hands-on activities, AND explore more with websites and app recommendations.

SING

Adding more singing into your daily routine doesn't have to be hard.  In fact, you can sing the same song over and over again, but in different styles, with actions, movements, and other silly ways.  Check out this list from Ashley Danyew of 38 ways to sing it again to inspire you!

WRITE

With the moon landing anniversary just recently passed, it's a great time to do outer spaced theme activities.  Toddler Approved has three star themed pre-writing activities for you and your littles.  Match colors and numbers (and strengthen hand muscles with clothespins), stretch rubber bands, and work on fine motor skills with q-tip painting.

TALK

No one wants to think about having "The TALK" when their child is just a toddler, but talking early and often about bodies, boundaries, and healthy relationships help your child build trust in you and pave the way for better decision making.  Talk with Your Kids has suggestions on how and why you should talk to your kids from 0-18 about the birds and the bees.

PLAY

Dress up is a great opportunity for your kids to exercise their imaginations!  Kids Craft Room has a breakdown of good things to include in a dress-up box, how to keep them, and why you should have each item.
Just for fun: Only Happy Viral Videos to brighten your day.
Here's our August Early Literacy Activities Calendar.  Just do one short activity a day to help your child develop their pre-reading skills.  Feel free to share it with friends and family!
