Hays County Files Second Lawsuit Against Kinder Morgan and its Proposed Pipeline
Hays County will head back to court to try to prevent pipeline construction through the area after filing a notice of intent that they would be suing Kinder Morgan a second time. The notice was filed on July 17, putting Kinder Morgan, the United States Army Corps of Engineers, and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service on notice. Full story from KXAN →

Houston Files Lawsuit to Maintain Water Rights Over Future Reservoir
In an effort to hold on to water rights from a proposed reservoir in Austin County, the City of Houston took legal action July 22. House Bill 2846, which was signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott on June 2, requires Houston to sell all rights to the proposed reservoir back to the Brazos River Authority for no more than $23 million. Full story from Community Impact →

Scientists Have Big Hopes for Uvalde Pool Study
Ron Green, a scientist at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, and his team of hydro-geologists are busy collecting data on and creating a lumped parameter model for the Uvalde Pool, a major reservoir of underground water centered over central Uvalde County and part of the Edwards Aquifer. Economically Recoverable Water in Texas: An Underappreciated Water Management Strategy?
Conversations about the value or “true cost of water” and the nationwide infrastructure maintenance gap encourage a reconsideration of the value of utility water losses. Water loss audit data for 2014 for two planning regions that are home to almost a third of Texas’ population and include three of the five largest cities are examined to explore the value of economically recoverable water losses from a perspective that better reflects the regional scenarios under which the state water plan is developed.
