The Army is running a classified mission in DC

Black Hawk helicopters are shuttling soldiers across the city. Of course we don’t know much about the program, which started in October, but when the Defense Department asked Congress this month for $2.5 billion, the Army marked the helicopter program as a high priority

Tenants unionize to beat back gentrification, bad landlords

A coalition of residents from all eight wards gathered at All Souls church in Columbia Heights to curb discrimination against minorities by landlords, by joining forces and demanding more rights as tenants. One study claimed DC had the most intense gentrification in the country, leading to cultural displacement as people were pushed out largely along racial lines.

Where the DC power lunch was born

Recounting the history of Sans Souci: The exclusive French restaurant was the height of glamor in the 60s and 70s, when it turned away a poorly-dressed Mick Jagger and whose maitre d’ studied two newspapers each day to avoid accidentally seating two embroiled parties next to each other. Today, 17th and Pennsylvania houses a...McDonald’s.
