Environmental Team
Mission: The Environmental Team’s primary focus is Climate Change education, political action, and mitigating our current national emphasis on increasing carbon usage.

Our current focus is on Fossil Fuel Exports. The Pacific Northwest stands squarely between the most voracious energy markets in the world and huge fossil fuel deposits in Canada most specifically, Alberta and transportation through British Columbia and ultimately the Salish Sea. The Transmountain Pipeline increase (former Kinder Morgan) was passed by Prime Minister Trudeau and his cabinet to expand the Tar Sands production. With the potential of an increase of 70% ships carrying oil through our waters, comes the threat of a catastrophic oil spill along our waterways. Tribal Nations are again organizing to fight the expansion in courts. If you want to help, please see www.pulltogether.org.

It is currently illegal in Washington State to “bring your own container” for food. You can help next week by giving comments at public meetings around the state or sending in a comment. Washington’s Department of Health is updating State Food Code. Join Zero Waste Washington and others to support the update and inclusion of new “bring you own” provisions. New proposed language: The draft version of the code (WAC 246-215-03348.10), being reviewed this summer, would allow consumers to: *Bring your own container to fill yourself with not-ready-to-eat foods like dried pasta and beans or packaged foods like wrapped candies, and *Bring your own container that food establishment employees can fill for you with ready-to-eat food such as salads. There are several public meeting this next week or send in your comments to: Food.safety@doh.wa.gov by July 31st ! Raging Warriors for Reproductive Justice
Indivisible's Healthcare team
We will begin meeting regularly again on Sept. 5th, but we have been busy this summer planning projects that help the public understand what's at stake in the reproductive health issue -- the potential loss of the Roe v Wade decision through Supreme Court action. Here in WA state, we have been guaranteed the right to choose since 1970, and the "right to choose" has been codified in our state constitution. But that right, passed by ballot by the WA state electorate, could be at risk.

Schedule of Mueller's testimony
It will be split across two committee appearances with three hours allotted for the Judiciary Committee and two hours for the Intelligence Committee.
There will be a 30-minute break in between the two hearings, and the former special counsel will have the opportunity to ask for breaks during each appearance.
Neither committee is expecting Mueller to give lengthy or extensive answers to lawmakers' questions. Democratic staff members of the committees say they anticipate "yes" or "no" answers from the former special counsel or very short sentences. But in the end, they believe that the two hearings will help Americans better understand the Mueller report.
Foreign Policy Team
Jefferson County Citizens for Sound Foreign Policy
CCSFP has been following certain international issues with an eye to influencing U.S. actions under a president who is an absolute disaster when it comes to foreign relations.
We are informing ourselves through news reports, Congressional hearings and documents and discussion. We are targeting our own legislators and other relevant officials and committee chairs and ranking members to support worthwhile legislation.
General topics of interest:
• Russian meddling and Mueller report
• Trying to constrain Trump's chaotic and destructive foreign policy.
• Strengthening Congressional checks on the president's actions in the international arena. (military, economic, alliances, etc.)
• U. S. military capabilities vis-a-vis foreign policy
• hotspots and possible U.S. diplomatic solutions, sanctions, military ramifications etc.
Since the 116th Congress has a Democratic majority in the House now, we've been seeing a lot of good legislation coming from the House, only to face obstruction by Mitch McConnell in the Senate. Eliot Engel, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and his colleagues have been especially productive in terms of hearings and legislation, some of which has been bipartisan.
We are tracking and supporting new legislation to protect our elections from foreign hacking and requiring use of paper ballots. In HR 2722, the House has passed a set of critical new measures to safeguard our elections. The Securing America’s Federal Elections (SAFE) Act which will replace outdated & vulnerable voting equipment, mandate paper ballot voting & post-election audits and create strict cybersecurity requirements for voting systems. A related bill S.1540 has been introduced (sponsored by Klobuchar) and is in the Senate Rules and Administration committee. Safeguard our Elections and Combat Unlawful Interference in Our Democracy Act was introduced June 27 H.R. 3501 by Rep. Eliot Engel and has gone to several committees including Foreign Affairs. We urge Indivisible members to let Representative Derek Kilmer and Senators Cantwell and Murray know we want these bills passed.
