Hi <<First Name>>,

This week's main event is the hearings Congress will be holding tomorrow with Special Counsel Robert Mueller. He is expected to testify in front of the House Judiciary committee starting at 8:30am and in front of the House Intelligence committee at noon.

The thing is, Mueller has already said that his testimony will align closely with what is in the Mueller report, which clearly lays out how President Trump has broken the law. We are going to call Reps. Trone and Sarbanes today to remind them that, even before Mueller testifies, we already have plenty of examples of Trump's criminality and they need to get in line with an impeachment inquiry.

For Rep. Raskin, and Sens. Cardin and Van Hollen, we will be calling about the new policy being rolled out by the Trump administration that would greatly expand its authority to deport undocumented immigrants without due process. This is an incredible abuse of power meant to inflict harm on our communities. We will be calling on our members of Congress to speak out against this.

Scripts are below. Good luck and let us know if you took action this week by clicking the button below!

Below is our script for the week. Not everyone likes to read from the script, and that's OK! For those not adhering closely to it, the underlined parts are some key phrases that you should try to work into your discussion.

Remember!
  • Always say your name and the city and zip code you are calling from.
  • Discuss one issue per phone call or email. If you want to discuss multiple issues, it's best to make multiple calls/emails.
  • If you get a busy signal, that means your colleagues are doing a good job of sending our message. Try to call back later, call a different day, or send an email.
Script
Step 1: Hi, I'm [NAME] and I live in [ZIP CODE]. I'm part of Indivisible Montgomery and I'd like to leave a message.

Step 2 - Reps. Trone and Sarbanes: I'm calling to let the Congressman know that I will be paying attention to Mr. Mueller's testimony on Wednesday and I hope he is to. The Mueller report has already laid out serious crimes committed by President Trump, and the House needs to use the tools at its disposal to hold a criminal president to account. Will the Congressman support H.Res 257 to launch an impeachment inquiry into Trump's actions?

Step 2 - Rep. Raskin, Sens. Cardin and Van Hollen: The Trump administration is continuing to make radical changes to our immigration system that circumvent due process and put the people in all of our communities at risk. Will the [Congressman/Senator] speak out against the administration's recent immigration actions?
After-hours activism
Some of you aren't able to make phone calls or send emails during the workday. That's fine! You can still make your voice heard either by calling the office and leaving a voice message or by sending an email. These are still effective ways to get our point across, and you should take the time to do it!

Federal employees
If you are a federal employee, you still have the right to make your voice heard as a constituent. However, there are a few restrictions you need to pay attention to. This article has some helpful information on how to be an activist while being a federal employee. You are part of an important constituency with an important viewpoint. Exercise your rights to make your voice heard!
