ON-LINE ANTI-COUNTERFEITING MEASURES SEMINAR
Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) organised an information day on 19 July (‘Workshop on Anti-Counterfeiting Measures in the Digital Era’) attended by three EABC Working Group Chairs (IPR, Digital Economy/ICT and Health&Pharma) and the Executive Director. The event covered the collaboration amongst on-line market place operators, rights holders, and enforcement agencies, examined practices to prevent and reduce breaches of IP rights and considered civil and criminal actions and statistics about these. In Thailand the legal basis is the Copyright Act (up to 2015 amendments) and the Computer Crimes Act. The Copyright Act is being reviewed for possible more effective measures, which would also take into the account the role of on-line intermediaries.
Look out for the IP Key event to be organized by the EU Delegation to Thailand in September, which will also cover the roles of on-line intermediaries.

IBM UNVEILS NEW “ELECTRONIC TONGUE” TO TASTE AND IDENTIFY LIQUIDS
“Electronic tongues” are devices that can analyze materials just by coming in contact with them — and they have near-infinite applications, from testing water quality to ensuring an expensive wine isn’t a counterfeit.
The problem is most fall into one of two categories: portable and specialized for only certain materials, or stationary and versatile. But now, IBM researchers have unveiled a new electronic tongue capable of bridging gap, making it easier to identify a range of liquids on the fly.
