City of Eagle crews are hard at work transforming "The Landing" property at the corner of Eagle Road and Mission Drive. The City purchased it this summer. Now called the "Eagle Landing," the property will serve as the new home of the Eagle Museum of History and Preservation, a new community center, and Parks and Recreation and Museum staff offices.

The old church on the property will house the museum. We are proud to be preserving the historic 1938 church and filling it with items and stories of historical significance to Eagle. Work is underway to clean up the building and make way for the museum exhibits. When the work there is done we will move the museum out of its current location on Old State Street. As of right now, there is no firm deadline for moving the museum.

The lion's share of the renovation action is going on in the building that will eventually be staff offices. Walls in the old house are coming down to make way for our Parks and Recreation and Museum staff.

Speaking of Parks and Rec., the community center that is already on the property will become the base of operations for many recreation classes and camps. The building needs minimal renovation work, so select classes will start taking place there this month.

We are excited to be revitalizing this well-known property in the heart of our community. Please pardon our dust while we turn it into a hub for fun and educational activities! We can't wait to show you the fruits of our labors. Visit cityofeagle.org/projects for updates on the Eagle Landing and other city improvement projects.

WHY HAVEN’T WE FIXED THE GREENBELT?

The flood of 2017 was officially declared a disaster by the Department of Homeland Security. Since that time, we have been working with FEMA to make it all right again. But we want the Greenbelt to be better than it was. Stronger. More resistant to high water. It makes little sense to us to simply rebuild it to its former glory. We must make those areas stronger because flooding here is a historical fact of life.

There are two things that have delayed repairs. One is the additional flooding that happened this spring. The second is a FEMA rule saying that if we start work without the proper approvals, they won’t reimburse us for the repairs. We don’t want to do anything that would jeopardize our eligibility for mitigation grants. So, we will wait it out, because making this all better is a seven-figure project, and we’d prefer that the citizens of Eagle did not have to pick-up the entire tab.

In addition to the visible damage to the banks and pathways, the sand and stone that washed down from Boise has made Eagle’s riverbed its new home. This has caused our river channels to flood some pathways at just two-thirds the volume that they did prior to 2017. Trust me, the agencies that can make changes to the river are working hard on a solution, but that will likely take years. There are just too many environmental considerations to be weighed before anyone can alter the Boise River. We don’t want to go through this again.

We don’t want YOU to go through this again.
