Night Creatures and Other Urban Wildlife

I am most known for my paintings of domestic animals that we love as pets, but I have always been fascinated with all creatures. Lately, I have been pursuing my curiosity with the wildlife native to my home in Stark County, Ohio in a series of paintings. Most of the animals in my Urban Wildlife series are night creatures, but there will be some in the series that we see in the daytime as well.

We often think of these animals as pests, because they tend to interfere with our activities. It is us humans, however, who tend to disrupt THEIR natural habitats, so who is the pest? I can say this. Left alone to do his or her

business, there is no creature more beautiful than a skunk.

I started the series because I wanted to try a new direction in my work, and because the animals kept beckoning me to paint their portraits as I passed by them, driving in the night. I have another motivation to further the series, however.

The curator for the galleries at Malone University took notice of my works-in-process postings in social media, and she has asked me to do a show in the fall. The show will be on exhibit October 28 to December 8, 2019.

I am really excited to share this new work with the community! When the show gets closer, I will provide more details. Frankie recently joined the home of Musky and Louie, two other cats whose portraits I painted a few years ago. It was only fair that Frankie should get his portrait done as well.
