Former Whickham Police Chief backs Jonathan in Police Commissioner by-election
Andy McDyer Jonathan Wallace July 19 (1)
It's polling day on Thursday 18th July for the post of Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for the Northumbria Police Force. And local Lib Dem candidate Jonathan Wallace's campaign has been boosted after winning the support of former Whickham Police Chief Superintendent Andy McDyer (pictured above left).

Andy was based at Whickham Police Station in the late 1990s. He has now retired after over 30 years of service in both the Northumbria and Humberside Police Forces which he served in a number of high level positions.

"Jonathan brings experience, knowledge and determination to get the job done - all key skills in the role of PCC," said Andy. "I remember working with him over 20 years ago and I can see why local residents have consistently voted for him to be their councillor over the past 32 years.

"Jonathan is battling to replace the PCC system with something more accountable to local residents without the costs. He will deal with government ministers to battle for a better system of police accountability. In the meantime, I know Jonathan will focus on rebuilding community policing.

"Please vote for Jonathan on Thursday, 18th July."

Polling stations are open from 7am to 10pm. The result will be declared on Friday 19th.
Ravensdene Lodge care housing plans agreed
Planning permission has been granted to demolish Ravensdene Lodge on Consett Road, Lobley Hill and replace it with a 4-storey care housing development. It will consist of 58 one bedroom and 24 two bedroom apartments. There will also be space for a dining area, coffee bar, lounges, salon, assisted bathing, activities room, buggy store and offices.

The application went before the council's planning committee on 5th June but a decision was deferred so that committee members could visit the site on 20th June. It then came back to the planning committee on 3rd July when the plan was granted permission.
