Top of the morning to you!

I don't really have much else to recommend this week as I am incredibly deep deep deep into Taffy Brodesser-akner's latest novel, Fleishman Is in Trouble.

It's one of those books that is just so in my wheelhouse that during the day, all I can think about is getting back into bed at night to read it, and then when I'm reading it I keep sneaking onto the next chapter, and then when it's over, as it will be in a few days, I'll be very, very sad. So that leaves time for very little else really.

It was nice to know I wasn't alone in my other book related thoughts last week - I love the emails, so please if you can think of anything that will fill the book sized hole in my psyche, please don't be shy! Drop me an email anytime at jeremy@jackywinter.com

No more dilly-dallying though, we're only four weeks out from our latest launch and big news, so got to get those eyeballs working. If you really want my opinions on other matters, be sure to check out the latest season of Jacky Winter Gives You The Business, where we follow Lara around Mexico, constantly tapping her on the shoulder asking her about what she's eaten and what's in our open browser tabs.

Until then - the good stuff as always, is not here, but down there.

xo

The Podcast

This week on Jacky Winter Gives You The Business we return to the topic of specialisation vs generalisation, and our old friend Photobucket.

“How do you prove to someone that you can do anything else when all you’ve done is specialise? And then on the flip side, if you’ve flittered between a million different things only scratching the surface of each, how do you prove to someone that you can do anything at a higher level? Or maybe it’s not even about proving anything at all, maybe it’s all about talking the talk, it’s about persuasion.”

// Lara Chan-Baker

Each week on our podcast we dissect three links we’ve come across our internet travels. These are jumping off points for what’s shaping issues, processes and happenings in the creative industries today. To find our more about our IRL open tabs events, visit opentabs.rodeo

We revisit the topic of whether it’s best to be a specialist or a generalist

and chat about Photobucket along with some of our favourite websites that are no longer.

The Gallery

Lamington Drive is an exhibition space, art school and a great way to meet other artists. Feeling lonely? Come to a show!

Lamington Drive Residency

LDR operates in two parts – 4 emerging illustrators and image-makers will work in-residence at the gallery for a duration of 8 weeks, encouraging on-site production and exploration (which will be open to the eyes of the public throughout).

This is followed by a dedicated group exhibition of the finished work created in that time, opening mid August.

Come down to the gallery between 11-6pm Wednesdays through Fridays and 12-5 Saturdays to check out what our residents are getting up to!

The Gardens

Clear the mind. Feed the process. Jacky Winter Gardens is a creative retreat nestled in a half-acre of natural bushland only 45 minutes from Melbourne. It’s a perfect getaway for solo travellers, couples and small groups.
