Last week we began a series on the little reached Berber ethnic group. Within this ethnic group, there are several clusters of people. This week we look at the Shawiya Berber cluster..
According to the Joshua Project, there are 0.0% followers of Jesus among the Shawiya Berbers! They are 100% Sunni Muslim!
Shawiya Berbers - Where do they live?
- These people live in 6 countries
Algeria, Morocco, France (near Paris), Italy (near Rome), Belgium (near Brussels) and Germany.
- They number about 3 million people worldwide

Shawiya Berbers - Helpful things to know
- Before being forcibly converted by Muslims, they were Christians
- They steadfastly hold onto their cultural traditions, and as a result, few know the Qur'anic practices of Islam
- As a group, these traits are common among them - proud, persistent, loyal and they love the soil
- Most of the Shawiya Berbers live in poverty or near poverty
Prayer Points
- Pray for laborers of the gospel to be sent among the Shawiya Berbers. It is estimated that 54 gospel workers are needed. Pray for laborers who can speak Tachawit to be sent among them.
- Pray for the salvation of souls among the Shawiya Berbers. Pray that the seed of God's word would find good soil in the hearts of these people, and they would multiply themselves in a big way (Mark 4:8)
- In their poverty, may Shawiya Berbers discover the truths of: "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich." II Corinthians 8:9
Reasons For Praise This Week
- A Muslim from Ethiopia gave his life to Jesus Saturday, July 13, on our food delivery outreach here in DFW
- A Muslim mom and two daughters from Algeria, now living in Paris, France, put their faith in Jesus when members of an e3 team visited them in the last few days. Since we just prayed for Muslims living in or originating from the Maghreb last Wednesday, this was a big praise! We are trying to find out if they are Berbers.
- Please pray for these new believers and their spiritual growth as follow up begins.
