Quality Payment Program News

  • CMS recently published a blog post and released an infographic to share preliminary participation data for the Quality Payment Program during 2018.  Key findings include an increase in participation rates between 2017 and 2018 from 95 percent to 98 percent, respectively. In addition, the participation rate of small practices increased from 81% in 2017 to almost 90% in 2018. Read more about these statistics on the CMS website.
  • Clinicians who participated in MIPS in 2018 can now access their 2018 performance feedback by logging in to the Quality Payment Program website. If you believe an error has been made in your 2018 performance feedback and 2020 MIPS payment adjustment factor(s) calculation, you will have the opportunity to request a targeted review until September 30, 2019.

End-of-life for Microsoft’s SQL Server 2008 R2

  • July 9th, 2019 marked the end-of-life for Microsoft’s SQL Server 2008 R2. End-of-life means that Microsoft will no longer offer security patches for that version. Although, SQL Server 2008 R2 will continue to function, the significance to a medical practice of the end-of-life for any Microsoft product is the concern over HIPAA compliance. With no more security patches, new security vulnerabilities that are discovered potentially create an added risk of a data breach. To read more about how the end-of-life for Microsoft’s SQL Server 2008 R2 can affect your office, read our latest blog post.

Electronic Prescribing Formats Updated

The ChartMaker Medical Suite has been updated to use the latest NCPDP 2017071 schema format for electronic prescribing of medications. This format change affects not only electronically prescribing of new medications (both controlled and non-controlled substances), but also renewing medications, cancelling prescriptions, as well as processing medication changes and refill requests. With these changes various updates have been made throughout the Clinical system that allows improved and easier workflows. Do note, however, as in the past, some workflows may continue to be limited for a given pharmacy until that participating pharmacy upgrades its software to the latest schema format. In those situations, the ChartMaker® Medical Suite will advise you on how to handle prescription renewals or refill requests. For further information regarding the changes made to Clinical system as it relates to the NCPDO 2017101 schema format update, see our release highlights page.
