Welcome to the Streatham & Marlborough Sweep (SMS), a regular update of club news.

Another successful weekend of results

SMCC went into the weekend with great confidence following a tough selection week with unprecedented availability. Unfortunately, this inevitably meant rain ruining the party and we lost three games to the weather! However, we still managed four wins from five which takes our run to seventeen wins from the last nineteen senior league fixtures!  This week, the 1s hauled themselves out of the relegation zone with an excellent chase against Purley. Getting the better of an important toss was clearly crucial, but the bowling of Nicholls (3-31) knocking over the top order and Mayes (4-32) taking out the mid-lower order was beautifully counter-balanced by a stylish innings from Cheadle (76*) and a bucaneering 32* from Davis to secure victory with three balls to spare. The 2s, unfortunately, were on the wrong side of the toss and fell to a strong Old Wimbledonians.
The 3s and 5s lost their fixtures to rain but the 4s maintain their top of the table status with a comfortable victory against Sanderstead. Being 53 points clear of third, there is every possibility that their social on 3 August could also be a promotion party... Another table topping team, the Hawks, made short work of Epsom Eagles on Sunday. Lyons retiring on 43 meant that two youngsters, Izzy Marin-Curtoud (35*) and Izzy Brown (20*) got to showcase their ability with a great partnership to post 137-2 off their 16. The opening bowlers made light work of the response with Selwyn-Kuczera returning 3-0-6-3 and Kent 3-1-8-2. A last wicket partnership got the Eagles to 50 before Izzy Brown finished the job. Excellent work all round. Again!

President’s Day 2019 - Club Six-A-Side - 25 August

The 2019 President’s Day is a club staple for the August Bank Holiday weekend and this year we have revised the format to broaden the event and encourage more members from across the club to take part. As such, we will be hosting a six-a-side tournament with teams roughly split on ability to make the day enjoyable for all. If your interested in being involved in such a great day, please mark your attendance in the usual way by hitting “attend” on the Teamo event. There will be a £15 charge per person which includes match fee, lunch and dinner. An absolute bargain. Those who don’t want to take part but want to attend can enjoy the rum punch on offer as per normal!

Please contact Dan Johnson to captain a side or if you have any questions.
