Sports Psychology
We are extremely lucky to have Professor Moira Lafferty (C.Psychol, HCPC Registered Sport Psychologist) join us in Scotland on Thursday 25 July for two educational sessions. Moira is one of the Deputy Heads of the School of Psychology at Chester University. Moira’s research interests span three broad streams; sport and exercise psychology, research methods, and teaching and learning in higher education. Her research interests in sport and exercise psychology centre specifically on the role of psychological skills in peak performance, the ‘hot house’ syndrome, parent-child relationships and team formation and success.
Moira has worked within equestrian sports for the last 15 years where she has been involved with the GB Pony Squad, presented on sport psychology to the BEF, BHS, and other equestrian bodies and has been instrumental in setting sport psychology and sport science programmes within the BD High Performance Camps, National Academies and within the BD NW Region as well as her work with individual equestrian athletes. With numerous research publications and invited communications in Equestrian publications her mantra is “everyone can achieve excellence at their own level and excellence is not reserved for Grand Prix” she believes in working with all so that our young equestrian athletes are supported on their journey and coaches and parents can do that.
