Cycling BC iRide Newsletter
July 19th, 2019
Dear iRide Parents and Teachers of the Western Kootenays,

Happy Summer! I hope you and your family have enjoyed a fantastic summer so far and I am very excited to announce that Cycling BC is creating a new summer camp in Nelson, BC this August 12-16th.

This new camp offers children aged 10-13 with intermediate bike skills (Level 4-5 ability) the opportunity to learn how to make their own website, create a movie, and master new mountain biking skills.

This camp is facilitated by Cycling BC's iRide program with mountain biking coaching provided by Kootenay Mountain Biking (working with iRide since 2015) and computer coaching provided by Traction on Demand (working with iRide since 2017).  The girls only program goes biking in the morning and switches to computer work in the afternoon (12 spots available).  The boys only program starts with computer coding and finishes with bike riding (12 spots available).
Please note, all participants will need to carry a 2019 Cycling BC Mini-Membership ($15/calendar year). This membership provides sports accident & liability coverage for your child during their camp activities and the mini-membership can get you access to an annual maximum of $400 of financial assistance through KidSport. To apply for financial assistance, please complete this KidSport Application here.

Sincerely,

Ben Chaddock

iRide Manager & NCCP Liaison

Who is Traction on Demand?

As Traction on Demand’s community engagement program, Traction for Good (T4G)’s purpose is to strengthen the connection people, causes and community. We accomplish this by focusing on four key pillars: Increasing the capacity of nonprofits with Salesforce service grants and industry expertise; inspiring Tractionites to give their time, talent or treasure to causes that are close to their hearts; growing social business; and empowering kids to code, learn and explore with classes, camps and outdoor experiences. Learn more about TOD here.

Who is Kootenay Mountain Biking?

A partnership between BettyGoHard and Cycleye, Kootenay Mountain Biking provides NCCP-trained and PMBI-certified coaches/instructors to help you learn new skills and enjoy your outdoor cycling experience. In harmony with Cycling BC’s youth development programs since 2015, Kootenay Mountain Biking coaches have undergone NCCP training and delivered both iRide in-school and community programs. This special camp in Nelson will be coached by Kootenay Mountain Biking staff. Learn more about KMB here.

Cycling BC is excited about helping your child build the skills to ride further.

Our iRide, youth club, high performance and leadership programs are designed to introduce your child to cycling and build their confidence through sport-specific skills.
