While many of you may know that I served in Iraq with the United States Marine Corps, you may not know that my brothers, Jake and Evan, both served in the Marines during times of war in Iraq and Afghanistan. You also may not know that Jeremiah’s great-great-grandfather fought in World War I and his great-grandfather was an Air Force officer during the Korean and Vietnam wars.
It doesn’t take long to see from the many pictures in our home that our family has a very strong tradition of military service. So, it is with a great sense of pride this week that we gave our love and best wishes to the next Garcia service member - Jeremiah.
A young man now, it was as if it was yesterday that I met Jeremiah and quickly agreed with him that Sonic was our hang out. It did not take long until we started bowling, golfing, and fishing. One time when we were fishing, it was about when he was four years old with his Lion King light up sandals, I caught a huge fish and he was so excited to help me reel it in. Later that evening, he boasted to Michelle “Mom, we caught a shark!"
Jeremiah was a young teenager when we filled our tag with a nice six point bull elk. He was almost absolutely sure that the three of us could get that elk out of the mountains by ourselves until the real work started five minutes later.
To think back on how fast time flies - from him being there at my side canvassing to traveling with him to Mexico so that he could learn Spanish to now dropping him off for the Air Force Academy. It is going to be different without Jeremiah here at home studying until all hours of the
night and traveling the world as a family. Time has really gone by fast especially these last 4 years of high school.
They say your life changes when you have kids, but few talk about how much adopting a child changes your life too. For me, it will always be one of the greatest things I have ever had the opportunity to do. These past 16 1/2 years of my life with you Jeremiah have been several great chapters in a book that still has so much unwritten.

Michelle, Xan and I are so incredibly proud of all that Jeremiah has accomplished and the young man he has become. Receiving acceptances into both the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and the U.S. Air Force Preparatory School, but deciding to stay in Colorado to pursue a career in the U.S. Air Force says a lot about Jeremiah’s character. We cannot wait to see what his bright future brings - knowing he is going to remain the Jeremiah we all know - calm and thoughtful and full of compassion and love!

Sincerely,
Leroy M. Garcia
U.S. Marine
