Hey there <<First Name>>, 
I hope you're having a great summer! Mary and I are finding ourselves doing a lot of traveling this year. We aren't usually such jetsetters, but everything just sort of fell into place and we went with it! In April we took Mary's sister Elizabeth on a weeklong vacation to Cancún. It was Liz's first time out of the country in decades and we all had a great time! Then in late June, Mary and I went to Connecticut and spent time with Mary's son Tom and his wife Jewels and their two boys Nelson and Earl. I have two step-grandsons, what a blast! On that trip we also spent a day in Boston, where I got to check in at my alma mater, Berklee College of Music. The school has grown so much since I was there!
The last two weeks of August we're taking a trip to Costa Rica. This is our second time, we also went in Spring, 2018. We'll visit friends in Lake Arenal for a week, then drive to Tortuguero National Park on the northern Caribbean coast to see the sea turtles come ashore to lay eggs. The Costa Rican rainy season runs from May to late November, with a small dry spell in July-August called a veranillo. We're curious to experience the rainy season! We really love Costa Rica, and it's wonderful to get away from daily concerns and be in a completely different environment. Pura Vida – we're excited for this trip!
Between now and then I have quite a few music dates and I'd like to invite you to any or all of them. Take your pick, there's something for everyone!

Backyard Tap
Backyard Tap (323 N Railroad Ave W, Loveland, CO 80537) is a brand-new venue in downtown Loveland. Owner Zed Brooks has a unique vision centered on craft beer, outdoor food and connection to community. Since their official grand opening on June 22, word is spreading that Backyard Tap is a great place to hang out with friends and family in a casual community atmosphere. Have a cold beverage and tasty food from local food trucks while listening to live music in a comfy outdoor setting! I'll be at Backyard Tap Fri Jul 19, 5-8 PM playing solo piano and vocal, classic rock music, and on Sat Aug 3, 5-8 PM with The Mood Elevators, my classic rock+jazz trio featuring Jo Asker on bass and Bobby Wiens on drums. The Mood Elevators sound great and I know you'll enjoy it, come check it out!
West End Lounge
West End Lounge (127 West 4th St, Loveland, CO 80537) is a small, intimate room with great food, drinks and atmosphere. Owners Chris, Amy and Josh are a great bunch of people who go out of their way to make your evening memorable. Come enjoy tasty food prepared by Chef Josh and drinks mixed by Chris, accompanied by your favorite classic rock and jazz vocal tunes. I'll be at West End Lounge on solo piano and voice Sat Jul 29, 8-11 PM and Fri Aug 2, 8-11 PM. Hope to see you there!
Cheese Importers w/ Eric Ottem Jazz Quartet
Cheese Importers (103 Main St, Longmont, CO 80501) is a family-owned restaurant and French market experience. They offer the very best foods from around the world, with over 350 varieties of cheeses & every accompaniment you can imagine, as well as all sorts of kitchen goods. They're well-known in Longmont for hosting weekend jazz, and I'm happy to be playing Sat Aug 10 5-8 PM with the Eric Ottem Jazz Quartet featuring trumpeter Eric Ottem, bassist Kevin Waggoner and drummer Steve Lopes. This is a fun group, come check it out!
Pourhouse Bar & Grill Open Jazz Jam
Pourhouse Bar & Grill (124 E 4th St, Loveland, CO 80537) is well-established favorite in downtown Loveland. If you're a fan of pub food, you should check out their menu! Every Tuesday 7-9:30 PM is their long-running open jazz jam night. Along with bassist Kalin Capra, myself and a regular rotation of drummers, we play Real Book jazz standards and generally have a lot of fun. The jam attracts good musicians and it's always interesting. Come check it out and bring your instrument!
Coming in September: Elmer Funk at Avogadro's Number
Elmer takes the stage at Avogadro's on Sat Sep 14, 7-11 PM. Tix are $10 in advance, $12 at the door!
