“Let us go forward in Christ's name as a community of faith; to grow in faith through worship, witness and love for one another and our neighbor”
— St. Anne's Mission Prayer

St. Anne's Episcopal Church is a vibrant, energetic, optimistic, fun, and loving community of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington located in Upper Montgomery County, MD. As Episcopalians we believe in a loving, liberating, and life-giving God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We are descendants of and partners with the Church of England and the Scottish Episcopal Church, and are part of the third largest group of Christians in the world.

We believe in following the teachings of Jesus Christ, whose life, death, and resurrection saved the world.

Ours is a legacy of inclusion. We aspire to tell and exemplify God’s love for every human being. We believe that God loves you – no exceptions.

Listen to the Presiding Bishop's weekly podcast by clicking the image. In this weeks episode Bless - Sharing and listening to the stories of life we learn that when we practice blessing on the Way of Love, we walk with others, listening to and sharing stories, journeying into a deeper relationship with the living God we have known in Jesus Christ. In this episode, Bishop Curry and Canon Stephanie Spellers talk about how we are called to care for each other; how we can seek, name, and celebrate Jesus’ loving presence in the stories of all people (including ourselves); and how we can live in gratitude for all the blessings of this life.

Where are Father Lee's Sermons?

You may be wondering why we have not posted Fr. Lee's sermons the last few weeks. The reason - our recorder that we use stopped working. We have tested it and it looks like the control board has gone out and so it will need to be replaced. We are purchasing a new attachment for our sound system to be able to record in the main church sanctuary. As soon as we get it and install it, we will begin to post the sermons once more!

Thanks be to God

Stewardship
Why we Support St. Anne's

To my St. Anne’s family:

During my personal reflection on Stewardship, I always wonder how other members of our church evaluate the effects of their own pledges. Although donating to support a building sounds boring to some, our church represents far more than a physical structure, and our investment sustains more than just the physical upkeep that all buildings require.

This building is home to our offices, the choir room, the library, the columbarium, the labyrinth, the nursey, the chapel, and the parish hall - the hall that is also occupied by the Cub Scouts, fencing classes, the Y women, and retreats for our internal and external community. Sharing this space is just one way that St. Anne's connects with the surrounding community. I cannot count how many weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, or baptisms celebrations I can remember attending in the parish hall, and I hope that similar memories will be made in the future with familiar and new faces. I hope that it continues to create memories for the external groups who also recognize the hall as their gathering place.

The all-purpose room on the ground floor is well known as the meeting area of the Women of St. Anne’s, the St. Claire guild and our Sunday Shcool. Is is also used by New Doors Ministry - it is used by many internal and external groups that may not be as familiar to all.

We gather as a family in St. Anne's multiple times a week, for countless hours. We gather to pray, to praise, and to support and love one another as our church family. We gather to laugh, to grow, and to learn together - "we" as not just our own church community, but the many other groups who call St. Anne's their home. It's more than a physical investment - it's a spiritual one as well, and a valuable investment in our community. It is a true blessing.

This is merely one area that our pledges support - I hope that you consider this when filling out your pledge cards this upcoming year.

Love through our Savior, Jesus Christ,

John and Pam Brewer

Important Information for Fr. Lee's upcoming Vacation

Fr. Lee will be out of the office from Monday, July 22 through August 6th as he and his dad celebrate their 50th and 70th December Birthdays!

Here is what you need to know:

There will be no E-News for the next couple of weeks. However, if you have a need to put out a communication to the entire parish, please contact Cathryn Conroy, our communications volunteer. She will be happy to email any relevant information to the parish. Her contact information can be found in REALM.

We will be having guest priests on both July 28 and August 4th for both the 8am and 10am service. WHILE IT IS TEMPTING to take the Sunday off when Father Lee is gone - we hope that you will still come and worship for the benefit of newer members or people who may be visiting us for the first time!

In case of building emergencies notify Carmen in the office, or if the office is closed, please call either our Senior Warden, Shane Lippert (770-648-1675) or our Junior Warden, John Catlin (240-529-3848).

In the case of a pastoral emergency not requiring a priest (hospital admission, spiritual guidance etc.), please call Deacon Eugene (301-675-9958). Remember deacon’s are not allowed to Absolve, Bless, or Consecrate, so any thing that requires either of those must be done by a priest.

In the case of an emergency requiring a priest (Last Rites, Confession, Anointing of the Sick) please call Father Javier Garcia Ocampo at (202-903-6426).

Interested in the Spirituality of Aging? OR
Would you like to guide those who are aging in their spirituality?

Father Lee+, along with the clergy in the Northern Montgomery County Region and +Bishop Chilton, our Assisting Bishop, are putting together an informational session on a program called Sightlines.

As we get closer to the groundbreaking on our Affordable Senior Housing, it is important that we begin to prepare for how we will interact with our future neighbors and begin to train those who are interested in this ministry to those who are aging.

Sightlines is a project on the spirituality of aging co-sponsored by Seabury Resources for Aging and our Diocese and is designed to provide a space and structure for exploring the challenges and the rewards of aging within a spiritual context.

The project has several goals, among them, building community among older adults, fostering spiritual wellbeing, and identifying opportunities for meaning and purpose.

Sessions combine reflection, directed discussion, video and audio presentations, poetry and more to guide participants on their spiritual journey of aging.

We anticipate the information session to be held this October. The session is for ANYONE who has an interest either as a participant in the program or as someone to be trained to offer the program. It is our hope at St. Anne's that some of you, may not only wish to be participants, but that some may choose to be trained to offer this to our future neighbors in our senior housing. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

There are still people who have not entered their information into REALM

Father Lee is actually BEGGING at this point...

We really need your help. We implemented REALM software to make management of the our church easier and it is working well. HOWEVER, we really need you to complete your and your families profiles in your REALM Account. Some of you have not signed up for your REALM account. This is making it difficult to complete new reports that I am required to submit both to the diocese and the National Church. An example is our demographic information, new reporting asks for the number of attending people in different age categories. It is impossible for me to guess....so PLEASE - if you have a REALM account, please enter the information in your profile (also attach a picture to your profile if you can) - the pictures will help all of us get to know who everyone is.

If you are a regular attendee and do not have a REALM account - please sign up for one. It really is important for us to have correct information so that we can continue to plan for our future and continue to GROW!

Look below in this newsletter for instructions on how to sign up for a REALM account.
