Our Commitment to a Strong, Safe & Secure Border

Last week, Canada and the U.S. announced they were moving forward with the implementation of our Entry/Exit initiative recording people who come to and leave our countries. This means, starting July 11, Canada and the U.S. will exchange basic biographic entry information – full names and dates of birth – on all travellers at our shared land border. With this next step, entry into one country serves as an exit record from the other. The Entry/Exit initiative will help Canada and the U.S. make better decisions quickly on shared border management, law enforcement, and our national security needs. Learn more about our Entry/Exit Initiative and ways we secure our borders.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg Visits Canada

While in Canada this week, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg met with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and thanked him for Canada’s contributions to NATO. We measure these contributions by the actual service of Canadian women and men who are building a safer and more peaceful world. Notably, Canada commands the NATO training and capacity-building mission in Iraq, leads the multinational battlegroup in Latvia, and is on the forefront of promoting gender equality in NATO’s programs.

#DefendMediaFreedom + #DiplomacyUnited

Canada and the United Kingdom co-hosted the first ever Global Conference for Media Freedom last week. There were members from over 100 countries in attendance including ministers and members of the press to discuss the importance of preserving media freedom around the world. Here at the Embassy of Canada, we have been doing our part in Washington working with international partners to show Canada’s commitment to press freedom worldwide. For more about a recent project check out our post.
