PRESS RELEASE: DowntownDC BID Partners With ULI to Host Advisory Panel on Sustainability in DC

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) is partnering with the Urban Land Institute (ULI) July 21-26 to host an Advisory Panel to study sustainability goals in the District and their impact on stakeholders.

The panel, “Addressing DC’s Climate Change Legislation and Regulation While Enhancing Value Through Real Estate Investment in Sustainability and Resilience,” will provide timely data for the District ahead of the new Building Performance Guidelines due Jan. 1.

“We are pleased to be bringing DowntownDC stakeholders and District representatives together with ULI and sustainability experts to create a successful path forward for sustainability in the District,"  said BID President and CEO Neil Albert. "This study will help inform efforts to maintain a competitive economic market for the city within the region while aggressively moving forward to achieve these important environmental goals."

The panel will be chaired by former ULI Global Chairman Lynn Thurber, immediate past chairman of the advisory board for ULI's Center for Sustainability and Economic Performance, and the past chairman of global real estate money management firm LaSalle Investment Management.

The District remains one of the nation’s leading cities in sustainability through the proactive efforts of the DC Government. DC leads the nation in Energy Star-labeled buildings and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certifications per capita.

The Advisory Panel and related activities will be held July 21-July 26, culminating in a presentation July 26 at 9am held at the CoStar Group (1331 L Street NW).

Members of the media and the public can register in advance for the July 26 release event. Please contact Essence Smith at essence@downtowndc.org to register.
