Debate Watch Party - Round 2

Round 1 had some fireworks and interesting twists and turns - are you ready for round 2? We had fun last time watching with a crowd of 35-40 people each night, so we're doing it again.

Join us, starting at 5:45 PM on the evenings of July 30 and July 31, at Sizzler on 2880 Sepulveda in Torrance.

Group Meeting

Our next group meeting will be on Saturday, August 3 from 2:00 - 3:30PM, at Torrance Zamperini Field.

Our guest speaker will be Jeannette Christian, Field Representative for Senator Diane Feinstein.  Ask questions, or advocate for your position on legislation, or other actions.

Thirty Minutes Of Activism:  We'll be working on a Reclaim Our Vote postcarding campaign.  This is a personal reach-out to previously registered voters who may have been purged via voter suppression schemes (which often target people of color)

August Cause of the Month

This month, we ask you to consider donating to candidates supported by our friends at Sister District South Bay.  Sister District works to create and maintain Democratic majorities in state legislatures, to build sustaining power from the bottom up.

Republicans have narrow majorities in both Virginia houses (21-19 in Senate, 51-49 in House).  The 2019 elections are the last-ones before redistricting - and the last chance to prevent Republican gerrymanders.

These races are winnable - give what you can!

In 2017, the election for this district (HD-94), ended up literally tied, and Shelly Simonds lost in a random drawing!

Shelly is a mother of school-age daughers, and a community leader with a passion for  STEM curriculum and excellence in education.  Click on her image to learn more about her.
The last election for this Senate seat (SD-7) was close (54-46), and the Republican incumbent is retiring.

Cheryl Turpin is a current Delegate (HD-85), and has worked to expand Medicaid, increase school funding, and teacher pay. Click on her image to learn more about her.

Help Turn Torrance Blue!

Did you know that Torrance is having city council elections next March for newly drawn Districts 2, 4, and 6?

The city council is currently dominated by Republicans, and this is a great opportunity to swing things a bit towards the left.
We're considering endorsing candidates in one or more districts, based on the results of a candidate questionnaire.

If you live in Torrance, click the map to the right for an interactive tool that will help you find your district. But remember- you don't have to live in the district (or city) to help out in this election!

Holding Our Elected Officials Accountable

We meet regularly with the staff of each of our elected representatives, at both the National and State level.  We advocate for our positions on current legislation, and provide feedback to them on their actions & votes. Notes from recent meetings can be found by clicking on the image above.

The meetings are great way to engage in the democratic process!  The staff listens carefully - and we often see positive outcomes from these interactions. If you'd like to participate, look for upcoming meetings on our calendar below.
Many ways to get engaged!
