The Freedom Communities staff moved into a permanent office this summer in the Movement Center on Freedom Drive. Having a space to call our own is significant to the efficiency of our work, while reinforcing our commitment to our neighbors, and the West Charlotte community.

The Movement Center was established in 2015 as a place for those who are serving the West Side— both non-profit and for-profit—to collaborate and thrive. The Movement Center is funded by the Movement Foundation, which is an outreach of Movement Mortgage. As one of the founders of Movement Mortgage, CEO Casey Crawford continues to set a high bar for philanthropy and a desire to positively impact our neighbors.

Building Energy

Our new office space has quickly become our go-to meeting place for our collaborations with our growing list of West Charlotte partners. Together, we are excited to see how we can work to bring collective impact among our neighbors and neighborhood allies.

It is also a hub of out-of-school activity and collaboration in the afternoons as the hallways fill with young voices from UrbanPromise: Camp Freedom. They share the sanctuary and classroom space with Center City Church. Being immersed in the excitement of 75 students from nearby Ashley Park School, and Movement Charter School everyday gives us great hope for the future. UrbanPromise's innovative StreetLeader model of employing high school students continues to pour life and hope into young people from throughout the West Side of our city. This innovative approach is one of our city's "bright spots."
