I need a vacation to recover from my vacation.

Hey there quilters!

What is it about vacations that are so exhausting? It could be we walked around what felt like half of Ottawa, walked around the National Gallery and the Nature Museum and all along the canal. Then we had a conference to attend and walked all around the university. It was great to see old friends and make new ones though.

And we did our kissing photo!

One place we drove to (thanks Uber!) was Ottawa Sewing Centre - what a great couple that owns the place! I picked up a new heavy duty machine for straight sewing. It also does FMQ. I was looking at getting a Juki, but the Brother PQ1500SL is a comparable model plus it was on sale. They even shipped it home for me! I've been playing with it a bit off and on and I think I'm in love.

From the web:

I read a lot of blogs and posts from quilters all over the world. Here's a few things that caught my eye this week. Hope you enjoy!
  • Great article here about Nancy Crow. I love how she's been a modern quilter all this time, before we had to words to label it as such, and thus is often categorized as an art quilter. Lots to think about there.
  • Sometimes it's easier to lean modern and veer into modern traditionalism instead of diving right into modern quilts. Confused? This article should help.
  • The slow movement in all kinds of handcrafts is rising as people push back against an even more automated society. There's slow quilting (basically hand quilting) and now even slow cloth. Part of me is amused at new terms for standard things like just weaving.
  • 7 women built their dream retirement home to live together until they die. I think I'd need more than 700 sq ft.

That's all till next week!
